And that's a wrap for Volunteers' Week!

We're ending the week on a real high as we celebrate the fantastic progress in our community garden.

After a very busy week, all of our crops are now planted and settled into their outdoor spaces. From vegetables and fruits to flowers and herbs, we can't wait to watch everything grow, thrive, and burst into full bloom over the coming weeks.

A huge thank you to all of the volunteers, groups, students, and individuals who have worked so hard this week to help get everything planted. Your enthusiasm, teamwork, and dedication have made an incredible difference, and the garden is looking better than ever.

Now the hard work has been done, it's time to sit back, nurture what we've planted, and watch the garden come to life. 🌻🍓🥕🎃

We're also getting ready for our Garden Fair on 18th June, and we can't wait to welcome you all along to see the progress for yourselves.

Volunteers' Week 2026

As part of Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating our fantastic gardening volunteers and the difference they make at Disability North.

Our community garden is more than just a growing space, it's a place where people can learn new skills, gain work experience, build confidence, make friends, and contribute to their local community. None of this would be possible without the dedication, enthusiasm, and hard work of our volunteers.

Andrea’s funeral will be on Monday June 15th at 10:30am at the West Road Crematorium. There will be a reception afterwards in the Classics Suite at the Grand Hotel, Gosforth Park. Donations in lieu of flowers if preferred will be shared between Disability North and Silverline Memories. There will be a collection box at the service.

Everyone at Disability North is heartbroken to share the sad news that Andrea Cheek, a much-loved member of our Finance and Payroll team, passed away on Wednesday.

Andrea worked with us for nine years. She was the most incredible colleague. Reliable, knowledgeable, and endlessly kind. She was the go-to IT guru, an expert in excel and someone we could always depend on to fix things and have the answers, along with her very dry sense of humour.

When we took Andrea on we also took on Toby, her beautiful dog who quickly become the most spoilt member of the team.

Andrea was not only a fantastic colleague, and an amazing finance and payroll officer, but she was a friend to many of us.

She is already a big miss, We would like to acknowledge the contribution she brought every day and she will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts are with everyone who knew her and how special she truly was.💜🧡

The Community Transport Association is researching the transport barriers faced by disabled children and young people, and parents and carers play a vital role in this.

Funded by Motability Foundation, this survey is gathering real experiences to help shape more inclusive and accessible transport solutions for families.

Back by popular demand!

Following a successful first block, Jenna from Inclusive Workshops will be returning to deliver a second block of 1:1 Art Therapy sessions at Disability North!

These sessions are designed for young adults with physical and neurodiverse conditions, providing a calm, creative and welcoming space where you can explore art in a way that works for you.
