It’s that time of year again at the garden!

As autumn settles in, we’re busy getting our garden beds ready for the winter months ahead.

There’s plenty to keep us busy, from pulling out all the weeds and harvesting the last of our lovely summer produce, to sweeping up all those fallen autumn leaves.

We’re also getting an area levelled and prepared more people can access our colourful tyre planter area!

A big thank you to everyone who gets involved. Every little bit of hard work makes a difference!

Share your experience: help make coastal health and care more accessible

NiCA + VOICE are looking to hear about the experiences of people who:
- ♿Use a wheelchair
- 🌊 Live in a coastal community
- 👵 Are aged 65 or over
- ❤️ Live with more than one long-term health condition

The project wants to understand the unique challenges people can experience when accessing health and care services, and hear directly about what could make these services more accessible.

What does taking part involve?

Step 1: Complete a short survey about your experiences. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 gift voucher.

Step 2: A small number of eligible participants may then be invited to take part in an interview to talk in more detail about their experiences. Those taking part in an interview will receive a £75 gift voucher as a thank you for their time and contribution.

Our first garden pumpkin!

Today our garden group harvested their very first pumpkin!

This was our first year trying to grow pumpkins in the garden, and we had lots growing at one point… unfortunately, only one made it all the way through!

There’s definitely lots for us to learn and reflect on for next year, but that’s all part of the fun of gardening. We’ve learned what worked, what didn’t, and what we might do differently next time.

Now comes the exciting part… what should we make with it?

With our new kitchen hopefully being completed over the next few months, we’re going to start experimenting with recipes using things we’ve grown in the garden.

We’d love to explore some pumpkin recipes that we could eventually make and share through our kitchen.

Pumpkin soup? Pumpkin bread? Something sweet? Something savoury?

Our garden group will be doing some research and recipe planning, so watch this space!
