Earlier this week, Benton Park View Branch Executive wrote to extend its expressions of solidarity to PCS members of the HMRC Northern Ireland Branch working for Sodexo, who are taking strike action in protection of jobs and services.

The Branch fully endorses calls for facilities contracts with companies such as Sodexo and Mitie to be brought back in-house, something the current Government promised but has signally failed to deliver.

“On Friday, the Coalition for Change was elected to a vital majority on the PCS National Executive Committee, including the Presidency, the Deputy Presidency, two out of three Vice Presidents, and 17 out of 30 NEC Ordinary Members. This is a resounding success for the Coalition and all PCS members, with an unassailable mandate to deliver our important platform. We owe enormous thanks to PCS’ members for entrusting us with the task of transforming our union. We send congratulations to all those elected from IL, BLN and others, and commiserations to our unsuccessful candidates.”

FAO All Members

The National Executive Committee (NEC) elections are one of the most important opportunities you have to shape the direction of your union.

The NEC is PCS’s main decision‑making body. It:

• Sets the strategic direction of the union
• Oversees how PCS is run in line with policies agreed by members
• Leads negotiations with the Cabinet Office and Government Ministers on civil service‑wide issues

As required by law, the ballot is being run by post. The ballot opened on Thursday 16th April so you should receive your ballot paper at your home address in the next few days.

We strongly recommend completing your ballot paper and posting your vote as soon as you receive it. Ballot papers are sent using second‑class post, and delays can occur. Returning your vote promptly helps ensure it is counted.

If you need a replacement ballot paper, you can request one by logging into PCS Digital. If you need help with this, please contact us by private message or email [email protected]. The deadline for requesting replacement ballot papers is Sunday 26th April at 5pm.

The elections are independently run by Civica Electoral Services and are conducted by secret ballot. It’s entirely your choice who you vote for. You may, however, find it helpful to consider the candidates nominated at your Branch Annual General Meeting (see below).

Your branch reps strongly encourage you to use your vote. Taking part in these elections is how members collectively decide who leads our union and how effectively PCS can represent us all.

Benton Park View Branch will be hosting a meeting with our AA members on Tuesday 31st March at 5pm. The meeting will take place online over Zoom.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide support to members impacted by HMRC's decision to scrap the AA grade. The link to join is being emailed to AA members’ personal email addresses today. If you don’t receive it please contact us by private message or email [email protected].

Despite requests for PCS to attend, HMRC have chosen to exclude your reps from the meetings you have had so far, so we feel it is important to meet in order to provide reassurance, answer queries and to gather your views.

Additionally, we are liaising with the GEC to arrange a workplace meeting in work time, which will be more focused on answering technical questions. Keep an eye on work emails for further details.

PCS reps have been inundated with queries from members upset and angered by last week’s announcement. We are working to arrange a meeting with members - the delay has been as a result of fighting to secure time for the members to attend in work time to ensure the highest possible attendance.

Despite requesting to attend, local and national reps were excluded from the meetings the employer has already arranged with the affected staff - including last Wednesday’s initial announcement - and we have made clear our disappointment that this has been the case.

For now members should watch out for an invite to a meeting with PCS, and continue to reach out to reps by email and Teams, or by calling by the Branch Office at BP2224.
