As PCS reps, we’ll do everything we can to represent and support members in the workplace — but there are things reps can’t do on their own.

You can.

Talk to your colleagues. Ask if they’re a PCS member. If they’re not, encourage them to join PCS ASAP. For obvious reasons (are they really the type to cross a picket line yet take the pay win? Hello… morals)

Whether you’re AA, AO, EO, HEO, SEO, Grade 7 or Grade 6 — you’re a worker, and your voice matters.

And let’s be clear: trade union membership isn’t just about what the union can do for you personally. It’s about standing together for fairness at work. For all!
We’re not an internal work engagement group or network so we can do a lot more than organise a “fun day”.

This matters even if you’re a manager of a business group, department or operational area or a team.

Being a manager does not mean you stop being a worker. You can still believe that people (including yourself) deserve fair pay, decent terms and conditions, dignity, respect and a meaningful voice at work. Supporting trade unionism is the way of standing behind those principles — for yourself, your colleagues and the people you manage.

PCS is of of course the biggest union representing HMRC workers and the civil service at large. The strength of that union comes from its members.

So have the conversation.

Ask your colleague: “Are you in PCS?”

If they’re not, tell them why you are — and encourage them to join.

The stronger our membership, the stronger our collective voice.

AA–Grade 6: you’re a worker. Your pay needs a union. Your workplace needs a union. And PCS needs you.

PCS is preparing for a national industrial action ballot.

We’re fighting for better pay, job security, pensions, decent terms and conditions and stronger rights at work.

PCS members: make sure your contact details, including your email address, are up to date so you don’t miss your chance to vote online.

The NEC has agreed a programme of campaigning and industrial action ballot preparations if the employer does not respond positively to the union's demands.

Earlier this week, Benton Park View Branch Executive wrote to extend its expressions of solidarity to PCS members of the HMRC Northern Ireland Branch working for Sodexo, who are taking strike action in protection of jobs and services.

The Branch fully endorses calls for facilities contracts with companies such as Sodexo and Mitie to be brought back in-house, something the current Government promised but has signally failed to deliver.
