We've been tending the CNE Allotment since 2017. Look how much it has grown....

1. An overgrown patch of grass that we strimmed and marked out beds in

2. The digging commenced and raised beds and fences were added

3. Planting our hedgerow, which is now full of blackberries, hazelnuts and wildlife

4. Installing a shed- special shout out to Andy and Mark whose literal blood, sweat and tears went into the foundations

5. Creating a pond and building a bug hotel hoping the wildlife would find them. Which they did! We have bees in the bug hotel and frogs in the pond

6. Getting our very own Polytunnel with the help of Northumberland Wildlife Trust. Andy, Alana and the youth lost our minds putting it together but it is still standing!

7. Planting our Allotment Award Apple tree named Gennevieve Goldie

8. Working with Ruth, Marek and Mick to build a Pizza Oven as part of the Life of the Wall Project

9. Planting and growing produce together in a beautiful, calm setting

10. It takes a lot of hard work to keep an allotment going. Well done to all the staff, volunteers and young people who have given their time to it. Long may it flourish

Alana, Kate, Bekki and Lisa are all leaving Children North East for pastures new. We would all like to say a huge thanks to every member of staff we have worked alongside and every young person we have supported over the 30 (ish) years we have amassed together at CNE, it has been a real journey and a pleasure.

We will all still be working together, providing the same Sexual Health and Relationships support and education but with Brook

Our Allotment sessions through the summer have been a total joy, we even managed a trip to the beach. Goldie, the apple tree kept us waiting several years for apples but look at the size of her first offerings!

It was Alana's last session working at the allotment. She would like to say:

'The allotment has been my favourite project whilst at CNE. It has been a real labour of love for all of the staff and young people who have passed through and a total pleasure to be part of. Andy and I always wanted it to become a place for young people and wildlife, the young people have always felt safe and content there, on Monday we were visited by a family of Wren in the hedgerow and had a dragonfly visit the pond. That feels like a job well done and as fitting an ending as I could have wished for. Thanks so much to every young person who has attended, I wish you all so much goodness, it has been so lovely to watch you all grow'.

Lovely first few sessions back down at our Allotment. Great to have some of the old members return to get their hands dirty and chat about life in nature.

Our prize apple tree 'Goldie' has her first apples, we have hazelnuts in the hedgerow and our frogs have returned. Exciting times.

If you are under 25 and are looking for something to do over the summer, get in touch.

We are at the Regional Chemsex Conference today. It has been an impactful day hearing from people with lived experience and professionals working in the field around the UK. It has been good to learn about Chemsex and look at better ways our region can support and ensure people keep safe whilst taking part in Chemsex. If this something that affects you, get intouch for signposting support.
