Our program includes a variety of engaging activities, such as English lessons, conversation sessions to develop skills, and arts and crafts workshops that foster creativity and social interaction.

We also organize dance and singing classes, all at the request of our valued ladies, providing a safe and comfortable space that reflects their interests.

Please note that, respecting the privacy of the participants and at their request, we are unable to publish videos of these activities.

Tavga , Gateshead (273 High Street, NE8 1EP): Choosing Life, Culture, and Integration over Conflict

Tavga s a women-led, community-based organization in Gateshead that supports women and their children, representing Kurds from across Kurdistan. Our core principle is non-violence: we strive to live in peace and dignity as active citizens in North East England.

In recent weeks, our community has suffered another devastating blow. Many have mourned the deaths of young Kurdish men and women in the ongoing human rights crises in Rojava (Syria) and Iran. Our sons and daughters continue to be targeted simply for their Kurdish identity and their peaceful demands for fundamental freedoms, particularly women’s rights.

As parents, educators, and youth workers living in the UK, we are determined to break the cycle of this trauma and ensure it is not passed on to our children growing up in Britain.

Today, on the fourth anniversary of Gina (Mahsa) Amini’s passing, our community gathered at theTavga Centre, not in anger, but to reaffirm the value of life.

To the sounds of the traditional saz, wearing Kurdish national dress, sharing stories across generations, learning and sharing meals together, we renewed our commitment to the universal principle: Gina, Jiyan, Azadi – Woman, Life, Freedom.

We don’t want our daughters to live in fear, nor do we want our sons to feel alienated or lost. We want them to excel in their studies, contribute to the economy, preserve and celebrate their rich Kurdish linguistic and cultural heritage, and integrate confidently and positively into British society.

For many Kurdish refugee women and young people in Gateshead, theTavga Centre is the only safe haven that respects their cultural identity. Our work directly addresses key UK public policy priorities: • Combating social isolation and improving mental health and well-being

• Preventing the marginalization and exploitation of young people by fostering positive cultural identity

• Empowering women and girls through community leadership and education

• Promoting social cohesion and intercultural understanding
Your support for theTavga Foundation is an investment in peace and education, and in a future where Kurdish youth in the UK choose books, music, and civic engagement over fear and marginalization.

Praise be to God, the Kurdish Crafts and Culture Fair concluded with resounding success, and it was an unforgettable day.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated:

To our amazing volunteers who have been with us since 2021 – you are the backbone of Tafga. You put in so much effort in organizing, preparing food, dancing, and giving your time and energy.

This success is your success. We have become one big family, and we will grow together.

With immense pride and joy, we announce the success of our special event that brought together our talented students and their families today at our Gateshead office.

It was a day filled with joy, creativity, and pride in our rich Kurdish identity and culture, beautifully showcased through traditional Kurdish costumes, artistic performances, and the enthusiastic participation of everyone involved in dancing, singing, and playing musical instruments.

We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to:

1. Our outstanding students: for your wonderful efforts and exceptional performances that delighted us all.

2. The Tafka team and volunteers: for your tireless work and dedication in making this day a success.

3. All our sponsors and supporters: thank you for your generous support and invaluable trust. Without your support, this success would not have been possible.

Happy Eid! Happy Eid to all the wonderful women and their families in our community.
We celebrate together—women of all faiths, nationalities, and backgrounds—united by a single purpose: to support one another and build a safe environment for every woman to express her opinion. We also remember the men who are a strong support for women, and our children who are the future of an entire generation. We wish everyone health and well-being.
We started our group in 2021, and since then, you have been writing a story of resilience and hope with us.
None of this would have been possible without you.
Thank you to every organization and supporter who has contributed to funding our mission and enabled us to continue serving our community.
Thank you to every volunteer who has given their time, effort, and heart without expecting anything in return. You are the foundation of this community. A special thank you to those who have stood by us from the beginning until today. Your belief in our vision has been our greatest source of strength.
