We're thrilled to announce that our 44th Children's Cancer Run will be taking place at Newcastle Racecourse on Sunday 16 May!

Last year, a record number of you joined us for our Mini Run (1km), 3, and 5 mile routes and made our biggest fundraising event of the year extra special 🧡 Can we do it again in 2027?!

Don't double book! Add the date to your diaries and make sure you keep an eye out for public registrations opening on Friday 8th January 🗓️ 🏃

Shout out to MX-5 Owners Club who held a family fun day earlier this year at SG Petch in Darlington in support of Children's Cancer North!

It was a day filled with fun activities including welly-throwing and raffles. The event raised a fantastic £500 which will help us to make life better for children and young people with cancer in the North East and Cumbria.

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of inviting children and young people who have been affected by childhood cancer to our Let's Move family fun day! We were proud to host this day with event partner, the Foundation of Light, at the Beacon of Light where we were joined by organisations from across our region who supported with a huge range of fantastic activities.

The young people had the opportunity to try out loads of sports, games and activity taster sessions in an environment tailored to their requirements outside of the hospital setting. The event spanned three floors of the award-winning Beacon of Light community hub, with indoor and outdoor activities on offer, allowing children and young people to spread out, engage in lots of different sessions, and just have fun with their family and friends!

One family told us in our feedback that the day was "Well organised, with lots of activities for all abilities. Friendly staff! A good family day out!"

Thank you to all the teachers and school staff who joined us at our Teachers’ Training Day today at the Royal Victoria Infirmary!

The aim of the day, which was hosted in partnership with the Department of Paediatric & Adolescent Oncology at the Great North Children’s Hospital and Young Lives vs Cancer, was to help teachers understand more about how living with a cancer diagnosis and its treatments effects a child or young person, along with their family network and education.

The day included expert talks from the Children’s Cancer Unit team and workshops on:
📘 Brain & spinal tumours
📘 Blood cancers (such as leukaemia)
📘 Solid tumours
📘 Supporting siblings

The commitment from educators to ensuring every child feels supported in their learning journey was apparent and we thank you for taking the time to join us at this important training day.

We also had the opportunity to introduce and hear from our charity-funded activity therapists who visit the wards to deliver individual and group sessions utilising animation, music, yoga and mindfulness. The panel discussed how they use their time on the wards to help young people to feel more connected and rebuild their self identity.

Together, we’re building stronger links between schools and hospitals to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people living with cancer 🧡

Shout out to our Charity of the Year adopters Collingwood Learners who took on the mammoth and incredibly feel-good task of calling each of our Great North Run runners. The volunteers were tasked with saying a huge THANK YOU to over 260 of our runners for their incredible fundraising in support of our cause.

The team really made an evening of it with around 40 people coming along to the Thankathon, including Collingwood employees, their families and friends. They even held a raffle with some great prizes which raised over £400 and kept the kids entertained with a gold duck themed treasure hunt!

THANK YOU once again to the fantastic Collingwood Insurance volunteers and to all of our runners 🧡 Your support helps us to make life better for children and young people with cancer in the North East and Cumbria.

Thank you to our corporate supporters who got involved in our Paint The Toon Gold campaign in September!

Enigma Interactive showcased their origami skills by displaying an art installation made up of different gold cranes hung from the ceiling of One Strawberry Lane and hosted a crane making workshop to raise awareness of our cause!

Malhotra Group PLC warmed up their vocal chords and adopted the gold theme of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month for karaoke nights across multiple venues, as well as generously offering an overnight stay for one lucky winner as part of a prize draw at the Grey Street Hotel.

Collingwood Learners donated their time to help us spread awareness at our community engagement event in Eldon Square where we invited members of the public to have some fun at our gold photo station, complete with gold props of course!

And Radiometer, sister company to our long time supporter, Leica Biosystems, supported us in making up our gold awareness ribbons which we sell on our website and at our events.

Thank you to everyone who got involved in our campaign! Your support helps us to raise awareness and essential funds which support children and young people with cancer in our region.

Your last chance to sign up in advance for our free Let's Move family fun day event taking place this Sunday!

We're looking forward to welcoming children and young people, as well as their families and friends, who have been patients or are patients on wards 4 or 14 along to our event which we're hosting with event partner, the Foundation of Light.

This event has been designed with your family in mind and aims to help young people with cancer discover new ways to enjoy movement during and post treatment through a variety of taster sessions and activities from local providers. We will also be hosting a range of interactive games and challenges for you to enjoy as a family and offering the chance to connect with other families who are also affected by childhood cancer.

Introducing Matthew's Meals and Miles, a new legacy initiative under the umbrella of Children's Cancer North which has been created in memory of Matthew Adams, a kind, generous and brave 18 year old who died as a consequence of cancer last year.

As one of our core focuses, Children's Cancer North supports families who have been affected by childhood cancer through a variety of financial grants. No family should have to worry about whether they can afford their next trip to hospital or the meal that comes with it. They shouldn’t have to worry about petrol and parking costs in a time where many parents become carers overnight and face a significant drop in their income.

🧡 Huge thanks to Matthew's Meals and Miles for turning their love for Matthew into something that will make a real difference to other families. As a result of this we will be able to continue to provide essential support to families across the region who are already dealing with the emotional and financial demands of looking after a child or young person with cancer. 🧡

Having already received its first major boost, Matthew's Meals and Miles is off to an incredible start with Matthew’s former school, Kings Priory School in Tynemouth raising an incredibly poignant £2,650 donation through a non-uniform day where pupils donned bright colours and Hawaiian shirts in celebration of Matthew’s quirky and fun spirit. They recently hosted a second non-uniform day and are donating even more as a result to Children's Cancer North in support of Matthew's legacy initiative.
