Transformative UK based CIO that supports sustainable projects in Kenya to educate girls, empower women, and transform entire rural communities.

Our UK and Kenya based initiatives are all aligned to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. 66 million girls around the world are not in school...we want to change this! Team Kenya have built strong relationships with local people and partners in the rural community of Ndhiwa, Kenya. Together we have transformed the lives of over 5,000 girls and their families in Ndhiwa. We educate girls and support them in breaking their cycles of poverty.

🌍 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱.

Childhood joys are universal: learning, exploring, making friends, and dreaming about the future. 📚✨

Yet for many children in Kenya, access to education is still not guaranteed. In rural areas, child marriage affects around 19% of girls, while approximately 782,000 children are engaged in labour. 🚸

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲. 🌱

Thanks to the efforts of communities, organisations, and supporters around the world, more children are gaining the opportunity to stay in school and pursue their dreams.

A powerful message shared recently by girls during a session in Ndhiwa:

💜 Fight against violence and discrimination.
💜 Respect yourself.
💜 Strive for education.

This 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆, we're celebrating the community-led work across Ndhiwa that strengthens both the land and the families who depend on it.

🌿 From forest gardens and model farms to beekeeping, clean cooking and the Innovation Hub, these initiatives help restore soils, protect water sources and create new opportunities for income and learning.

👩🏾‍🎓 When the environment thrives, households thrive, and girls have a better chance of staying in school, learning confidently, and shaping their futures.

In Homa Bay County, 𝗛𝗜𝗩/𝗔𝗜𝗗𝗦 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀.

Behind the statistics are real stories, real challenges, and young people trying to protect their futures.

That’s why we’re proud of our partner Twende Pamoja Ndhiwa for delivering a powerful 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗜𝗩/𝗔𝗜𝗗𝗦 in Ndhiwa Sub-County.

Led by a female trainer from the Health Department, the session created a safe and supportive space where girls could openly share experiences, ask questions, and gain practical knowledge about HIV prevention and awareness.

The girls left empowered, informed, and committed to supporting others in their schools and communities.

💜 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.

Recently, the 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝗻𝗶 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 participated in counselling and awareness sessions at Twende Pamoja Ndhiwa's 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗸, focusing on:

• Sexual & reproductive health
• HIV & AIDS awareness
• Prevention and personal hygiene

The sessions gave girls the opportunity to ask questions openly, challenge misconceptions, and receive support in a safe and confidential environment.

Most importantly, they left with powerful reminders:

✨ Saying no is okay
✨ Their bodies are valuable
✨ Education shapes their future

These conversations are more important than ever. In Homa Bay:

• HIV prevalence remains among the highest in Kenya
• Around 23% of girls aged 15–19 have experienced sexual violence
• Around 23% have already begun childbearing
• Many girls are still married before the age of 18

These are not distant statistics; they are realities affecting girls in our communities.

By creating safe spaces for girls to learn, speak openly, and access accurate information, we help build confidence, protection, and opportunity for the future.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬? 🌍

We’ve been working alongside our Kenyan partner, Twende Pamoja Ndhiwa, for over a decade, but we continue striving to improve, reviewing our strategies and reflecting on our shared past and our future.

At the heart of this, one belief guides everything we do: 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘂𝘀.

This means listening, learning, and working alongside communities, rather than directing from the outside. It also means building sustainable models that support long-term impact, from education and empowerment to environmental sustainability.

Last week, trustees, volunteers, and team members came together for a workshop to explore these ideas further, strengthening our partnership approach and shaping the direction of our work.

There is a lot to build on, and we approach it with purpose, driven by the commitment and energy of our volunteers and supporters who make this work possible.

In Ndhiwa, families facing climate change aren’t waiting for outside answers.

👉 They’re building resilience from the ground up through forest gardens that restore land and livelihoods.

🌍 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲.

In Ndhiwa, where many families depend on farming, climate change is felt every day.

Unpredictable weather, droughts, and degraded land have made it harder to grow food, increasing pressure on household resilience and children’s nutrition.

But in the face of these challenges, communities are finding their own solutions. Through forest gardens, farming systems that combine trees, vegetables, and crops, local families are restoring soil, improving food security, and building more stable livelihoods.

Supported by Team Kenya and Twende Pamoja Ndhiwa, these gardens are shaped by local knowledge and adapted to the land. They provide food year‑round, help families earn income, and reduce the risk of total crop failure when shocks occur.

This September, Loreta will take on the world's largest half marathon to raise funds for girls' education and women's empowerment programmes in Ndhiwa Sub-County, Kenya, delivered by our partner Twende Pamoja Ndhiwa.

Loreta loves being outdoors, staying active and is passionate about supporting initiatives that create meaningful, lasting change. Now she is turning that commitment into action:

𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐁𝐇𝐒 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬’ 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 🎉

Whitley Bay High School has been partnering with Team Kenya for a long time, and throughout 2025, WBHS students have shown incredible enthusiasm and creativity in their fundraising efforts, organising a series of engaging events that brought their community together for a meaningful cause.

From bake sales 🍰 to themed movie nights 🎬, students created opportunities for everyone to get involved.

💫 Highlights included a Halloween movie night paired with homemade treats, festive Christmas events featuring poetry readings, pick-and-mix stalls, and warm drinks, as well as a fun-filled musical movie night later in the year.

🎄 The festive season was particularly impactful, with a range of activities including a Christmas bake sale, a movie night serving popcorn and hot chocolate, and creative initiatives like a non-uniform day for lower school students and a pyjama day for sixth form, where every student brought in £1. These contributions collectively made a big difference.

🎁 Thanks to these efforts, part of the funds raised went towards supporting our Big Give Christmas Challenge campaign, that helped to support vulnerable girls' educational and personal needs by providing hygiene products and essential school supplies 📚

We are incredibly grateful for the energy, compassion, and dedication shown by everyone involved 🙌
