That’s a wrap on the 2025 - 26 planting season 🌱🪏

We have planted over 10,000 trees here on Eling Estate
with the help of CARMA and the numerous clients they inspired to come and get stuck in

It’s been a great year and we can’t wait to see the progress these hedges make in the years to come 🌳

Huge thank you to the lads who came to the office this morning and offered to do a litter pick around the areas of mountain bike trails in the woods. We won't embarrass them, but they know who they are. It is much appreciated. We hope others will follow this lead and keep these areas tidy.

Just a reminder that in general, cycling and horse riding is not permitted in the woods, albeit that they are open to users on foot.

The area around Grimsbury Hillfort (hatched red on the plan) is out of bounds for bikes and horses. This is a scheduled ancient monument and is protected by law. Damaging it through making trails etc is a criminal offence. Please adhere to signage.

We do have an area where we allow mountain biking in the spirit of provision for the local community; but if it is to continue it needs to be kept free of litter and any jumps are ONLY to be built by specific agreement to those we are working with. The reason is to ensure that they are safe (rollable) to use and are built properly.

Please continue to use these areas responsibly and look after it, or we'll have no option but to withdraw consent.

We are in the process of creating a network of all weather access paths for all users (on foot, bike and horse) around the Estate which will improve enjoyment all round, but please bear with us while we are working on these.

PUBLIC NOTICE - Foot path works and temporary car park closure

Please be aware of works due to commence to improve footpaths in this area.

We are carrying out some improvement works to footpaths to create better, more accessible routes for walkers and visitors.
We will be resurfacing some of the wetter areas, improving drainage and installing way markers. A rough map shows the desired area.

The Green dot with the P symbol locates where there is a temporary car park closure. This is to store materials for the works.

These works form part of a wider project to create a route from Cold Ash to the Eling Way following on from path works completed last year. These paths will form part of a new route called Grimsbury Trails

Please be cautious of moving vehicles whilst on site or choose an alternative walk during this time.

If you have any queries, please contact the Estate Office on: 01635 200268 or email [email protected]

Another fantastic day of tree planting here at Eling Estate🌳

A big thank you to CARMA and GoCardless for planting 2000 trees at one of our tenant farms 🚜

Hedgerows planted not only increase aesthetic value but also act as a hotspot for many animals providing food, shelter and transportation around the landscape🦔

Another special thank you to the CARMA team for organising the day, providing the trees and the positive energy for the day!

A big thank you to CARMA and Octopus energy for planting 5000 trees here at Eling Estate 🌳🌳

Carma Octopus Energy

Over the last few weeks we have been busy planting new hedgerows across the estate to increase connectivity and provide a habitat for many different types of species from birds to invertebrates 🦋🐦‍⬛
These trees comprised of traditional Saxon hedgerow mix which is in keeping with the natural landscape.

A special thank you to CARMA who organised the days and brought over a team of keen veterans to lead the charge and educate the team from Octopus energy about the techniques and benefits of planting hedges 🪏

Over the next few years we will watch these hedges establish and maintain them to help them flourish 🌸

🦋Our woodlands play a significant role in the life cycle of our Butterflies -

- Caterpillars munch on the leaves of the trees

- Butterflies feed on the nectar from the flowers

- Trees provide shelter amongst the branches or the stem

Eling Estate provides a paradise for a wide variety of Butterflies as well as many other insects through the careful management of our woodlands

Next time you are out and about in the woods, have a look around and see what you can see! 🦋

‼️Public notice‼️

Areas of these woodlands outlined on the map below are being thinned, which means that selected trees are being felled to allow space for other trees to grow and mature. This also allows more light to reach the ground for the benefit of flora and fauna.

This forms part of our woodland management plan and whilst it may appear destructive, it improves the health and diversity of the woodland. The recovery is swift – usually within a growing season or two.

We do our very best to be mindful of wildlife habitat and carry out surveys prior to work taking place to minimise the impact of works.

There will unfortunately be a mess created. Access to some paths may be restricted or disrupted, but paths will be reinstated as soon as possible.

Please be aware of these works taking place and adhere to warning signage put up for your safety. We can maintain access to these woodlands provided that users act responsibly. Please keep clear of any machinery and wood stacks.

If you have any queries or concerns, please contact the Estate Office on: 01635 200268 or email [email protected]
