Liz Milburn is an impressionist artist, working from her home studio in Bucklebury, West Berkshire. Her paintings celebrate the changing nature of light, colour and atmosphere. Artist Ken Howard's book Inspired by Light has majorly informed her work. Rather than seeking photographic precision, her paintings aim to capture the character, emotion and movement of a scene. Originally a telecommunications engineer, she turned to painting whilst living in the South of France with her family.

This collection showcases the vibrancy of Mediterranean life in the places she has travelled to. “I wanted to capture the atmosphere I experienced when sitting down for a coffee and sketching the scenes around me”.

Each piece starts life as a sketch, quickly transformed into a small watercolour to capture the essence of the scene. Taking influence from the impressionist artists, Liz then creates a larger scale acrylic representation in her studio, using larger brushes to capture the energy of everyday life. She is a member of the Oxford Art Society, and regularly shows her work with Little Van Gogh.

This September, New Era Players present Lords and Ladies, adapted by Stephen Briggs from Terry Pratchett’s much-loved novel.

If you’re already a Pratchett fan, you’ll know you’re in for a witty, magical adventure. If you’re new to Discworld, expect a hilarious fantasy packed with satire, unforgettable characters and plenty of laughs.

🎭 New Era Players are delighted to present ‘Lords and Ladies,’ adapted by Stephen Briggs from the novel by Terry Pratchett. 🎭

Pratchett aficionados will know what fun to expect in our September show. But if this is all new to you, he created the Discworld, a magical world that is carried on the backs of four elephants who stand on Great A’Tuin, the star turtle who moves through space.

🌍🐘 🐘 🐘 🐘🌟🐢

Whilst travelling, all sorts of myths, legends, stories, plays, films, music and just about anything from our world seep through. Sir Terry uses this to create satire and commentary on all aspects of life.

‘Lords and Ladies’ is vaguely ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ but with witches, young and not so young, a king and his bride to be, rude mechanicals, three wizards (two in human form and one who likes books, bananas and peanuts, not necessarily in that order) and a group of beings from another realm: glamorous but evil. Their appearance is one of the themes of the play, showing how people can be bamboozled by glitz and glamour and not see the evil beneath.

⭐ Male Actor Wanted! 🎭

The Marlborough Players are looking for a male actor for its production of Tom Stoppard’s acclaimed comedy “The Real Inspector Hound”, which we hope to stage between 19 & 21 November as part of a double bill with another one-act play. (Playing age 25-70).

The “Real Inspector Hound” is a comedic, absurdist one-act play that parodies classic Agatha Christie-style murder mysteries and pompous theatre critics. The plot follows two self-absorbed critics who watch a cliché whodunit, only to become dangerously entangled in the show's action themselves

Whether you're an experienced performer or considering a return to the stage, we'd be delighted to hear from you. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a talented and welcoming company while performing one of Tom Stoppard's most entertaining works.

🌼 Flower power. Progressive ideas. Complete confusion.

Nobody quite knows who is who, what they want, or even why they are there in Alan Ayckbourn’s hilarious comedy Relatively Speaking.

Set in a sunny Buckinghamshire garden in the late 1960s, this classic farce is full of comic misunderstandings and brilliantly awkward moments.

🎭 New Era Players look forward to bringing to the stage the brilliant Alan Ayckbourn comedy Relatively Speaking this June.

The action takes place in the late 1960s, an age of flower power and progressive ideas, mainly in a sunny garden in Bucks. Here, hilarious misunderstandings lead to mayhem, as nobody quite knows who is who, what they want, or even why they are there.

Greg thinks he’s going to marry Ginny. Ginny thinks she’s going to break it off with her older married lover, Philip. Philip thinks Greg wants to marry his own wife, Sheila. Sheila thinks everyone should probably have some sherry. 🍷
