🌼 Flower power. Progressive ideas. Complete confusion.

Nobody quite knows who is who, what they want, or even why they are there in Alan Ayckbourn’s hilarious comedy Relatively Speaking.

Set in a sunny Buckinghamshire garden in the late 1960s, this classic farce is full of comic misunderstandings and brilliantly awkward moments.

Presented by New Era Players at the New Era Theatre, Wash Common, Newbury.

🎭 New Era Players look forward to bringing to the stage the brilliant Alan Ayckbourn comedy Relatively Speaking this June.

The action takes place in the late 1960s, an age of flower power and progressive ideas, mainly in a sunny garden in Bucks. Here, hilarious misunderstandings lead to mayhem, as nobody quite knows who is who, what they want, or even why they are there.

Greg thinks he’s going to marry Ginny. Ginny thinks she’s going to break it off with her older married lover, Philip. Philip thinks Greg wants to marry his own wife, Sheila. Sheila thinks everyone should probably have some sherry. 🍷

Join in the fun at New Era Theatre from 11th–13th and 16th–20th June.

Back in 1965, Alan Ayckbourn wrote Relatively Speaking in response to a request from a theatre manager in Scarborough for:

“A play which would make people laugh when their seaside summer holidays were spoiled by the rain…”

More than 60 years later, this classic comedy still does exactly that.

Packed with mistaken identities, misunderstandings and wonderfully sharp dialogue, Relatively Speaking remains one of Ayckbourn’s best-loved plays.

Come and enjoy an evening of laughter with New Era Players this June at the New Era Theatre, Wash Common.
