Bridge For Young People

Bridge For Young People We give a home and dedicated support to young people (aged 16-25) who are leaving care or homeless.

BFYP gives a home to young people (aged 16-25) who are leaving care or who are homeless. We currently have three houses in West Berkshire; Wessex House, Hope House and Rebecca House. All our residents are provided with personalised support in a family environment, helping them to develop life skills such as cooking on a budget and money management as well as recreational activities with other resi

dents and support getting into education, training or work. Our residents have typically experienced varying challenges during their childhood. We provide them with a stable home, emotional support and practical help during this crucial time as they move into independent adulthood. Formerly known as Young People and Children 1st (Registered Charity Number: 1157870)

A huge thank you to all of our incredible volunteers, trustees, and supporters who give their time, skills, and dedication to our charity throughout the year.

Your commitment makes such a difference to the young people and we support, and we simply couldn't do what we do without you. Whether you volunteer behind the scenes, help at events, provide guidance as trustees, or support us in countless other ways, your contribution is truly valued.

Last night, we were delighted to host a special Tea Party to celebrate and thank each and every one of you. It was wonderful to come together, share stories, enjoy good company, and recognise the amazing work you do.

Wearing green today for Mental Health Awareness 💚

Young people in foster care and those leaving the care system often face huge emotional challenges, yet many still struggle to get the support they need.

📊 3 mental health facts about care leavers and young people in care:

• Children in care are around 4 times more likely to experience mental health difficulties than other young people in the UK.
• Many care leavers report feeling isolated and unsupported when transitioning into independent adult life.
• Young people who have experienced multiple placement moves are at greater risk of anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.

Mental health support, stability, and trusted relationships can change lives. 💚

Working closely with other local organisations makes such a difference in what we can achieve as a community. By supporting each other, sharing resources, and staying connected, we’re able to make a bigger impact where it matters most.

We feel incredibly lucky to have such a strong and positive relationship with our local food bank. Their dedication, compassion, and tireless support of our young people is inspirational. 💛

With regular donations of fresh fruit and veg, bread and tinned goods to help support our young people when they are finding their feet and haven't got the money to buy themselves food. 🫶

Spring has hit our houses, and with the nice weather we have been outside with some of the young people doing some gardening. 👩‍🌾

For care leavers, gardening offers a unique blend of therapeutic, social, and practical benefits that can specifically support the transition to independence and the healing from past trauma. 🌸🌼

When the sunshine hits Newbury, there is only one thing to do...☀

Young people and staff enjoyed a BBQ in the late afternoon sun at Wessex House. Sometimes the simplest activities are the most enjoyed! 🍗🍔

We are also in desperate need of a bigger BBQ if anyone is getting rid of one?! 🤣
