📢 A wee reminder from Newburgh Community Council.
Our recycling points at the school car park and the top car park are there for everyone in the community to use for domestic (household) recycling ♻️
We’ve noticed they’re filling up quite quickly at times, so just a gentle reminder that these facilities aren’t designed for commercial or business waste.
Keeping them available for household use helps ensure everyone has fair access and avoids bins overflowing 👍
Thanks to everyone for doing their bit to keep Newburgh tidy and recycling responsibly 💚

159 - Bank Fraud/Concerns Reporting Number

During our engagement session at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Livingston last week, staff highlighted the 159 service.

159 is our first public-facing initiative. Intended for use by consumers, 159 provides an easy route back to safety when you get an unexpected phone call about a financial matter. Easy to remember, the short code number now connects customers of more than 99% of the UK’s retail bank current accounts safely and directly with their bank. Unlike many long-form numbers, 159 cannot be spoofed or impersonated.

More than a million calls have been made to 159 since its inception. It has been expanded to bring in new brand destinations, including Bank of Ireland UK, Bank of Scotland, Barclays, Cater Allen Private Bank, The Co-operative Bank, Danske Bank, Chase, First Direct, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds Bank, Metro Bank, Modulr, Monzo, Nationwide Building Society, NatWest, Revolut, Royal Bank of Scotland, Santander, Spring, Starling, Tide, True Potential LLP, TSB and Ulster Bank, Virgin Money, Zempler Bank.

To find out more follow the link below – thanks to RBS Livingston for highlighting this service.

Well worth saving this number into your phone contacts for easy recall should you need it.

Just to make people aware that you need a code to unlock the defib cabinets, which you get if needed when you dial 999.

Some people have questioned why they are locked. Aside from getting stolen, we dont want well-meaning individuals using them without knowing what they are doing/without help as it cause more harm than good. It clearly states on the cabinet that you need to dial 999, but it would help if we all spread this information by word of mouth so people know, without needing to read it in a panic.

What is also important to note is that by dialling 999 you are also directed to the nearest OPERATIONAL defib. Like in a recent case the nearest defib had actually been used and therefore not available so the caller was directed to the next nearest.

Please help us by sharing this on Facebook but also by word of mouth so people get the help they need as soon as possible.

You will probably have seen that we only currently have one active Defibrillator (out of 3 that we operate).

We have placed this one at the TICC as it is most central.

We have another but it needs new pads at a cost of £150. The case at the Tayview is now completely broken but Thankfully the owners already fundraised for a replacement! Thanks to all involved!

Unfortunately we don't currently know the whereabouts of the third defib. We ask that it be returned to the TICC as soon as possible or get in touch and we can collect it. So we can get it back in action.

STORM DAVE - message from SP Energy Network.

Tips to Prepare for the weather/power outages.

Check local forecasts, secure outdoor items.
Keep a torch and fully charged mobile phone handy
Have some extra blankets nearby, your heating may be affected.
Close curtains or blinds to keep warmth in and draughts out.
Keep fridge/freezer doors closed to maintain temperature, check your appliance manual for how long food stays safe.

Staying safe and up to date
Stay well clear of any damaged or fallen power lines – they may still be live and extremely dangerous.
You can keep up to date with any faults in your area by using our postcode checker www.spenergynetworks.co.uk/postcode and by following our X/Twitter channel .
Report any power cuts or damage immediately by calling 105 – it’s free and connects you straight to SP Energy Networks.

Why this matters
Experience shows that preparedness reduces risk – to people, property and the time it takes to restore power. Small actions, like checking a torch battery or sharing the 105 number, can have a big impact when the weather turns.

We have a Priority Services Register for customers who may need extra support in a power cut. Find out more here.

🚗Update on High Street Diagonal Parking Concerns
The Community Council has sought advice following recent concerns raised about diagonal parking on the High Street.
Our Community Police Officers have attended the area to investigate and found no evidence that any laws were being broken during their visit. They have advised that if a vehicle is causing a dangerous obstruction, this should be reported at the time it is happening so appropriate action can be taken.
If residents wish to raise concerns or suggest solutions with the roads authority, Fife Council, you can contact their Parking Management team directly:

Thank you so much to all those that donated and came along to support our fundraiser this morning!

We raised £850 to help towards the cost our activities, of which our biggest is maintaining the defibrillators.

An additional thank you to the The Tayview Bar for their fundraiser in December raising
£225 and J Coyle for nominating us for a donation of £250 from his Union.

So thank you for keeping this life line available for everyone!
