The legs are warmed up, the bikes are ready, and there's absolutely no turning back now. 🚴

This Saturday, the Care after Combat 2026 Cycle Challenge gets underway: 114 miles across two days, from HMP Deerbolt to HMP Northumberland, visiting seven prisons along the way.

And inside those prisons, veterans we support will be riding every mile alongside our team on static. To every single person taking part this weekend: good luck, pace yourselves, and thank you for taking on this challenge.

We're halfway through Mission imPAWSIBLE!

You've got until 14th September to take part in our first Op PAWSIBLE competition if you haven't entered already.

The challenge? Send JJ Bear somewhere impossible.

That might be Jupiter, behind the wheel of a racing car, wherever your imagination takes him. You don't need to travel anywhere, and you don't even need an official JJ Bear. You can draw, paint, build, or print him instead.

Create your imPAWSIBLE adventure, take a photo, and post it publicly on social media using and .

The winning entry will be featured across Care after Combat's social media channels and website as part of a JJ Bear Mission Log Update, and the winner receives a £25 Amazon gift card and a Cadbury Milk Tray. 🍫

Every entry helps us spread awareness of the work Care after Combat does to support veterans in the justice system. The more people who see JJ Bear's mission, the more people who learn how dedicated mentorship and peer support can change lives.

You might feel responsible for their circumstances, worry constantly about their safety, and carry shame, grief, confusion, or anger, often without anyone to share it with.

Care after Combat has published a guide specifically for families navigating this experience. It covers:

Two weeks from now, our team will be in the saddle. 🚴

On 5–6 September, Care after Combat's 2026 Cycle Challenge takes our riders 114 miles across two days, visiting seven prisons along the way.

And while our cyclists are on the road, veterans inside those prisons will be clocking up their own miles on static bikes in prison gyms.

The same challenge and the same team, just on very different bikes.

Trauma doesn't always look how you'd expect, and that can make it even harder to recognise and address.

It might not present as obvious distress. For many, trauma shows up in ways that are easier to dismiss or misunderstand: irritability, withdrawal and isolation, hypervigilance, difficulty concentrating or making decisions, or physical symptoms like persistent headaches.

These signs can be misread as personality traits, behavioural problems, or simply "the way someone is." In the justice system, that misreading can have serious consequences, affecting how veterans are assessed and supported.

At Care after Combat, our mentors work with veterans who are experiencing the impact of trauma alongside the challenges of the justice system.

We don't need trauma to look a certain way to take it seriously. We show up consistently, without judgement, and we stay, because that consistency is often what makes the difference.

Today is VJ Day (Victory over Japan Day), marked in the UK on 15th August each year.

On this day in 1945, Japan announced its intent to surrender, bringing the Second World War to its final close.

For those at home, it was the end of six years of war. But for the men and women serving in the Far East, the journey was far from over.

The Fourteenth Army, one of the most diverse armies in history, had been fighting its own war while Britain celebrated VE Day in May.

Many felt forgotten, their sacrifices overshadowed by the celebrations happening thousands of miles away. Some could not return home until 1946, travelling vast distances long after the rest of the world had begun to move on.

They called themselves the Forgotten Army. Today, we remember them.

At Care after Combat, we believe no veteran should ever feel forgotten, then or now. 💙
