It was a pleasure to work with the National Memorial Arboretum on Friday for Anne Frank Learning Activity Day.
We were honoured to deliver two workshops, helping students connect with Anne Frank’s story and the experiences of others during the Holocaust.

The National Holocaust Museum is incredibly proud to share that our Emeritus Chair and former Chair of Trustees, Henry Grunwald KC, has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the King's Birthday Honours List for services to Holocaust Remembrance and Education. We wish Henry a hearty Mazal Tov and Congratulations!

The award recognises Henry’s 15 years of unwavering dedication to the National Holocaust Museum and his passion for Holocaust education and deep commitment to the survivors. For a decade and a half Henry led the Museum with warmth, humour and a deep respect and friendship to the Smith family.

Commenting on the honour, Henry said: "Having lost almost all of my late father's large family in the Holocaust, ensuring that future generations learn from and remember what happened has played a very large part in my life.

It was an enormous privilege to have been Chair of the wonderful National Holocaust Museum. That was reward in itself. To receive a national honour for Holocaust education and remembrance is the icing on the cake."

Adam Dawson MBE, Chairman of the National Holocaust Museum, said: "Henry has been an outstanding communal leader for many decades. Everyone at the National Holocaust Museum is delighted with this well-deserved honour recognising his deep commitment and leadership in Holocaust education."

We are also thrilled to see that honours have been awarded to Stephen Rubin, Alex Maws, Raymond Simonson, Mike Levy, Amy Wagner and Dawn Waterman, amongst others, who have all made exceptional contributions to Jewish life, Holocaust education and to fighting antisemitism.

We are saddened to hear about the passing of our dear friend Jean Hersh, a woman of extraordinary strength, determination and clarity.

To so many of us at Beth Shalom, as she always called it, Jean was a rock. Fiercely dependable, resilient, and full of grit, she was someone whose presence and strength could always be relied upon. Her love and support of Arek during the thirty years they were coming and speaking at the museum was incredible to see.

Jean brought a no-nonsense spirit, but also warmth, humour, and deep care. She helped shape not only this museum, but the lives of countless people connected to it.

Her loss will be felt deeply by us all.

After the Holocaust, survivors often used creative outlets to process their traumatic experiences. Now digitised on Google Arts & Culture, ‘Rabbi & Bar Mitzvah boy’ (1986) by Stanislaw Brunstein is an example of this post-liberation artwork.

In his paintings Stanislaw Brunstein reimagines traditional Yiddish speaking Jewish communities that were lost in the Holocaust. This painting of a rabbi and his student expresses the 4,000-year-old tradition of passing down Jewish culture and learning. His bright, expressive paintings of Jewish life help him to confront the loss of his family in Treblinka Death Camp and find comfort in his identity.

Read more about Stanislaw Brunstein, how he survived forced labour in Siberia, and became a renowned artist on our Google Arts & Culture page. https://artsandculture.google.com/asset/rabbi-bar-mitzvah-boy-stainslaw-brunstein-artist/0gE_5V3l8aUl6g
