The Wildlife Trusts

The Wildlife Trusts Restoring, protecting and reconnecting nature on land and at sea in the UK, Isle of Man and Alderney Our roots are local.

About us

The Wildlife Trusts are a movement of 46 wildlife conservation charities covering the whole of the UK. For more than a century, we have been saving, protecting and standing up for wildlife and wild places, increasing people’s awareness and understanding of the natural world, and deepening their relationship with it. Each Wildlife Trust has been formed by groups of active and motivated pe

ople getting together to make a real difference where they live and work. We have more than 900,000 members, 39,000 volunteers and 3,000 staff. We look after more than 2,600 nature reserves, covering 97,000 hectares – that’s almost twice the size of the Isle of Man – and operate more than 120 visitor and education centres in every part of the UK. We work on land and sea, from the hills to the seabed, in the countryside and towns, and from the remotest wild places to city streets. Wherever you are, our people, places and projects are never far away. Our House Rules

We love to hear from Wildlife Trust members and supporters, to see your photos and hear your ideas and suggestions. All we ask is that users are respectful of others and keep their posts polite, civil and suitable for all ages. We do not tolerate any content that is offensive or abusive including material that is obscene, violent, aggressive, argumentative, harassing, defamatory, unlawful, insulting, indecent or otherwise objectionable. This includes any language that can be construed as offensive, sexist, racist or homophobic. Please note that we retain the right to hide or remove any comments that we consider inappropriate. This extends to spamming and any material judged to be off-topic in subject-specific areas. We retain the right to block individuals who repeatedly ignore this policy and post inappropriate content on our page. In these cases warnings will be give beforehand.

*Moderation policy*

In general, we don’t moderate posts on our page or groups – except when offensive language is used or libellous allegations are made. We have a duty to protect our staff and volunteers, so while deleting comments is a last resort and very unusual, our position is that any post containing libellous accusations should be removed. If an individual continues to post content contrary to our House Rules (see above) then we’ll be forced to block that person from the page, but we would prefer not to do this and warnings will be given beforehand.

The outdoors inspires creativity 🌳

Last month, we celebrated this with A Day in May, inviting artists to spend a day in a landscape they care about and create a new work in response.

From 4 July to 1 August 2026, you are warmly invited to view the chosen artworks.

Each piece reflects a connection to the natural world, coming together as a celebration of the places that inspire and sustain us.

Broken promises, deregulation and nature in decline. 10 years on from Brexit, where does the UK stand? ❤️‍🩹

We've published a new report and it shows that things haven’t gone the way many people hoped...

Back in 2016, we were all promised a “Green Brexit” with stronger protections for nature.

But today:
• Many environmental rules are weaker or haven’t improved
• Wildlife is still declining
• Rivers, lakes and beaches are more polluted
• The UK has fallen behind the EU on environmental standards

Brexit has meant deregulation and lowered environmental protections, harming everyone.

However, this can still be turned around. Change is possible and there have been a few notable examples in recent years where the UK has taken bold action for nature. Stronger action and commitment is still needed to help our national health, wealth, and economy.

If we can fix nature, we will fix so much more.

With yet another heatwave here are some tips on how to help wildlife in hot weather! 🚨☀️

Please take care of yourselves in this warm weather and lend a helping hand to wildlife too. Keep your watering stations topped up and allow parts of your garden or outdoor space to grow a little wild to offer shade and shelter for animals.

It's World Rainforest Day! But did you know the UK is a rainforest nation?

Our temperate rainforests are cooler than their tropical counterparts, but just as wet💧And all that rain supports an incredible number of plants and animals 🐦🌳🦡

The Wildlife Trust in partnership with Aviva is working to expand the small number of these wet and wild woodlands we have left. Learn more: https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/temperate-rainforest-restoration

Here’s to the dads who lead us into the world with courage and curiosity. The ones who teach us to chase horizons, brave the unknown and climb mountains of challenge. Today we celebrate their wild spirit and the love that carries us through every adventure. Happy Father’s Day 🌍🧡

🦡 Badgers can eat hundreds of earthworms in one night

Across the UK, where you live can cut your life short by as much as 16 years.

Access to nature is not equal. Many people, have fewer opportunities to enjoy green spaces close to home, missing out on the health benefits that nature can provide. We have a unique opportunity to make a difference.

That’s why we’re supporting the amendments to the Health Bill, put forward by the Health Equals campaign, which would make tackling health inequalities part of the law.
