We wholeheartedly support this brilliant initiative to keep our parks poison free! Well done Extinction Rebellion Newark and Sherwood and Newark and Sherwood District CouncilπŸ‘ πŸ’š

πŸƒPOISON-FREE PARKS IN NEWARK & SHERWOODπŸƒ
Three cheers for Newark and Sherwood District Council who have agreed to end the spraying of toxic chemicals on all children's play areas across the District with immediate effect πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
This is a pilot scheme and here at PNGS we hope it will become permanent. If you feel the same, we encourage you to thank NSDC for this positive initiative. We understand that the work of Cllr. Dr. Simon Forde ([email protected]) and Councillor Paul Peacock([email protected]) was key to this successful proposal to protect our children, wildlife and environment.
Cllr Forde kindly credits Extinction Rebellion Newark and Sherwood for drawing his attention to the need to take up this initiative.

βœ…οΈ Weeded the planters
βœ…οΈ Fed the birds
βœ…οΈ Did a bit of strimming

βœ…οΈ Planted saplings in the hedges

Thanks all for turning out on Easter Sunday πŸ’š 🐣🌼

πŸ’š That exciting update we promised...the Library Garden now has three willow arches! They were built by a group of Friends volunteers last week, along with a hazel wigwam. We think they're great additions to our community garden, which visitors will be able to enjoy in months to come.

Thanks to Andrea and Steve from Willow Holt - Farndon Residents Environment group, who provided and cut the willow for us. πŸ’š

The Friends have been busy in the garden! In the past week, we've:

πŸͺ Weeded the brick path around the library.

🌼 Seeded the woodland areas with woodland wild flower seeds.

🌱 Removed grass clumps from the wild flower areas and prepared those areas for seeding.

πŸ§‘β€πŸŒΎ Strimmed some long grass areas.

πŸ₯€ Raked up cut flower stems and put them in the composter.

🌷Trampled over the cut flower areas to dislodge any retained seeds.

Thank you Sally-Anne, Maria, Riikka, Darren, Darrell, Carl and Ali. Great team effort! πŸ’š

And we also have more exciting updates to bring you over the weekend! ✨

Working hard in the garden. πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎπŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎπŸ’š Our volunteers meet up regularly to tend to the Library Garden, rain or shine.

Here's Chrissy, Ali and Darren, who joined other volunteeers for a tidying session earlier this month.

Volunteer Jenni, who took the pic, said: "We have been so busy w**ding and planting wild daffs, snowdrops, and bluebells, clearing the path on the Beaumond side of the library and trimming suckers from the tree. We also tidied the rill, emptied the rain water container and put it into the other one, so it can fill up again, saving water."

Thanks to Darryl, David, Darren, Ali, Riikka, Carl, Jenni and Chrissy for your efforts! πŸ’šπŸ™βœ¨οΈ
