The position of LASSIPCO remains unchanged - this site is an asset which is for the benefit of our young people, not for the profit of an out of town developer. All welcome at the public meeting - our young people need us to stand up for them.

LASSIPCO remains extremely concerned about the site. You are welcome to come along to both or either meeting.

Happy International Women’s Day! We remember all those who showed enlightened views on education for girls, from the founders of the Lilley and Stone Charity to the heads and teachers at the Girls School - let’s continue to offer the girls in Newark as much as we can through sports, arts and culture at this site.

We have been fascinated to see these architects drawings for the construction of the Newark High School for Girls (Lilley and Stone Foundation). They were done in 1909 by the architects Brewill and Bailey of Nottingham.

Thank you to Nottinghamshire Archive for restoring the drawings. This one shows the wonderful engineering of the ventilation system with fresh air drawn into the building from the top. We will share more over the coming weeks.

Here’s a photo of Miss Skues head of school from 1906 to 1916. She drew the sketch of the school too showing the view from the playground with St Mary’s Church spire in the background.
We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting this coming Saturday 18th Feb 4 to 5pm in the Congregational Church hall in London Road. We have the Chair of Newark Sports Asdociation, Paul Baggeley as our guest speaker. All welcome
