What a brilliant way to round off the year! This week Sett Valley Explorers gathered at to celebrate a year full of adventures, memories and laughs 🥂

We looked back on some cracking moments from the past year, enjoyed a lovely meal and swapped Secret Santa gifts 🎁

A lovely evening with a great bunch of people — feeling very festive and very grateful 🎅✨

We are incredibly proud to share that three of our Explorers received their Platinum Award at the County Award Ceremony last week at Stockport Town Hall 🎉

This is the first step on their way to King Scout Success, and a truly amazing award to achieve with only 3 scouts in New Mills and Hayfield having achieved it before them - a reflection of their dedication, resilience and commitment over many years.

They have pushed themselves, challenged their limits, supported others and embraced every adventure thrown their way.

Huge congratulations to all three - what an inspiration to the entire unit! 🌟

Tonight our Sett Valley Explorers got well and truly into the festive spirit with a brilliant pottery session from .pottery

They taught us all about how pottery is made, different types of glazes, and the magic that happens in the kiln 🎨

Our Explorers then had a go at making their own Christmas-themed mugs — and we can’t wait to see them once they’ve been fired!

A huge thank-you to Brookside Pottery for such an inspiring, hands-on evening 🙌

This weekend Sett Valley Explorers successfully completed their Qualifying Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Expedition — navigating challenging routes, camping out in wild weather, and working together every step of the way. 💪⛺️

It’s been incredible to see their resilience, teamwork, and good humour shine through 🥾✨

A huge well done to everyone who took part — you’ve truly earned that silver award! 👏

This week our Explorers were treated to a spooky silent disco to celebrate Halloween! 🎧🪩

We saw some fantastic homemade costumes and a few terrifying dance moves that might just haunt us until next year! 😱🕷️

Two of our amazing Explorers have organised a Craft & Gift Fair to help raise funds for their upcoming adventure to Kandersteg International Scout Camp 🇨🇭✨

🗓 Date: Saturday 1st November
🕙 Time: 10am – 3pm
📍 Location: Hayfield Scout Hut

Come along to browse beautiful handmade crafts, unique gifts, and local creations — all while supporting our young Explorers on their international journey! 🌍

This weekend, our Explorers took big steps forward on their Duke of Edinburgh journeys.

A successful Bronze Qualifying Expedition was completed with fantastic teamwork, determination, and navigation throughout.
A successful Silver Practice Expedition for some of our Explorers also took place, with them pushing further, building resilience, and showing real spirit.

We are very proud of everyone for their effort and commitment. Well done, Explorers – you did brilliantly.

🕊️ Remembering Helen – A Message to Our Scouting Families 🕊️

We are heartbroken to share the news that Helen, our much-loved former Beaver Leader and lifelong Scout, passed away on Monday morning.

Helen gave over 30 years of service to Scouting in New Mills. She inspired generations of young people and leaders and shaped the spirit of our group with her warmth, dedication, and kindness. Her impact on our community is immeasurable.

🕥 10:30am – St George’s Church, New Mills (SK22 4NP)
🕛 12:00 noon – Committal at Stockport Crematorium
☕ Followed by a Wake at New Mills Golf Club

Helen personally requested that 1st New Mills Leaders and Sett Valley Explorers form a Guard of Honour in full uniform.
All members of our Scouting family are encouraged to wear their necker as a mark of respect.

Last month, our Explorers embarked on an out of this world Space themed camp where they concluded their Space Activity Badge at the National Space Centre.

From learning about the solar system to discovering what life is like aboard the International Space Station, they had a stellar time exploring all things space. A huge highlight was meeting some very familiar faces from a galaxy far, far away...

We were also incredibly honoured to receive a signed photo from astronaut Tim Peake a few weeks ago, so the Explorers took time to learn all about his amazing mission on the ISS and what it takes to become a real-life space traveller!

A massive thank you to everyone who made this cosmic adventure possible!
