Some great progress made at our last working party on 15th March. We had a great turnout of willing volunteers and completed the base for the new tool shed, so hopefully at the next session we will be building it.

Our next working party is on 19th April! Why not come along and get involved?

NOTE: this working party has now been moved to the 26th to avoid the bank holiday

Are you free on 15th or 16th February?
Want to spend some quality time with some interesting people who are passionate about their interests?

Well, we need volunteers!

We have a stall at the New Mills and District Railway Modellers Exhibition in Chapel en le Frith and are looking for people to help us run it.

It’s genuinely a brilliant day, so if that volunteer could be you please comment and we’ll get back to you!

And we are back for 2025 with our first working group planned for next Saturday…. What wonders will we achieve this year...

⚡Breaking news! ⚡ The council will be running a public consultation meeting to discuss the future of the leisure centre next month.

Please come along and share your views - our full-sized sports hall and squash court are very much at risk.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday the 3rd of December 2024, from 4-7 PM at New Mills Town Hall.

We don’t know much about the full consultation yet other than:

🗳️The council (HPBC) will be consulting on a range of options.
🌐 These options will be presented on a website.
⌛ The full consultation period will run for 6 weeks from the end of this month, to the beginning of January.

We believe that the views of leisure centre users and New Mills residents MUST be considered. It was the extraordinary fundraising efforts of this community that made the leisure centre what it is today. We should have a meaningful say as to what happens next.

Please pass this message on widely!

Sharing this as our precious local sports facilities are under threat once again in favour of even more gym space. Please add your voice if you want to save it.

This came in today from "Save New Mills Leisure Centre":

"We wanted to give you a heads up that there will be a Councillors' Surgery this Saturday 2nd November, 10.30 - 12.00 midday, at the Co-op New Mills.

If you (like us) feel strongly about saving our full sized sports hall, and squash court, please go and have a chat with them.

Most of the local councillors, and New Mills Town Council, agree with our views about the leisure centre, with 8 of them endorsing this letter earlier this year.

However, a strong show of support from local people helps them to keep advocating against shrinking the sports hall and removing the squash court.

So if you're free tomorrow morning, please do go and have a chat with them (as a bonus you can stock up your fridge up at the same time)!

Not sure exactly what to say? Look at our website (hyperlink the words 'our website') for all the relevant information.

All the best,
David Cristinacce
On behalf of the campaign to Save New Mills Leisure Centre Facilities

P.S. keep your eyes out for the public consultation on the future of the leisure centre, which is due to come out later this month."

Thank you for reading this.
