Davidson Legacy Cottage, community owned since 2025, is the restored home of William C Davidson, father of the three founding sons of Harley Davidson with William Harley. Step into the heart of motorcycling history at the ancestral Scottish home of the Davidson family, whose members, after emigrating to the USA in 1857, co-founded the iconic Harley-Davidson Motor-Cycle Company. We are a registered

Scottish charity (SCIO - Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, charity registration number SC052174) and, since March 2025, proudly own and run this historic site alongside our dedicated community. Our journey to secure the cottage's future was made possible with invaluable assistance from the UK Government Community Ownership Fund, the unwavering support of Roadskin, the generosity of Harley-Davidson, and the collective efforts of countless individuals/groups who rallied behind our campaign. This collaborative success means the Davidson Legacy Cottage is now a community-owned treasure, preserved for generations to come. We've also been able to employ a dedicated project worker to run and maintain this special place. The cottage, located in Netherton, a small town in Angus, northeast Scotland, offers a unique glimpse into the past. It was here that Sandy and Margaret Davidson lived with their children, including young William C. Davidson, who left Scotland around age 11 and later became the father to three of the Harley-Davidson founders and the builder of the famous "SHED." We invite you to make the pilgrimage, just as thousands of visitors from around the world have done, to sign our visitors' book and connect with the courageous spirit of the Davidson family. Their journey in pursuit of the American dream is a remarkable story of success. The cottage was lovingly restored in 2012 by Mike, Maggie and Keith to reflect life in 1857 when the family resided here. The restorers of the cottage have now retired and we now have the role of keeping the legacy going. Volunteers are the absolute key to everything we do – from site maintenance to sharing stories and increasing awareness of this significant Scottish heritage. We warmly welcome new volunteers to our team, whether for regular involvement or occasional support. Visit us: Saturdays and Sundays, 11 am - 4 pm, or by special arrangement. It's more than just a historical site; it's about people, perseverance, and an amazing legacy.

🌱 Community Spirit is Blooming at the Cottage! 🏡✨

We are absolutely bursting with gratitude this week after some incredible community kindness and wonderful visitor connections!
First up, a massive, heartfelt THANK YOU to Isabelle and the entire Aberlemno plant sale committee! After their village plant sale, they chose to generously pass on all their beautiful, unsold plants and shrubs to us. Every single one of these was lovingly seeded and nurtured by the residents of Aberlemno, and they are going to absolutely transform our cottage garden. John has already given them a good watering, and Christine will be getting them comfortably settled into the ground this week. Talk about wonderful neighbors! 💚

We’ve also been absolutely delighted by the incredible folks taking the time to come by and see us. A special shout-out to the Burnett family, who stopped by all the way from Farnell and Canada! Janice (a fellow Harley rider!) and her daughter Else are back in Scotland after many years away, and it was an absolute joy to share the Davidson story with them. Hearing how much they loved discovering the cottage is exactly why we do what we do! 🗺️🏍️

📈 Visitor numbers mean the world to us. Every single face we see at the Cottage proves just how much backing this project has. Your footfall and presence show the world that our community is firmly behind us, keeping this incredible history alive.

👉 If you’re reading this and haven’t hit that 'Follow' button yet, please consider doing it today! A simple follow on our page really is worth its weight in gold to a project like ours—it helps us reach more people, share our updates, and grow our amazing community network.

Thank you all for the love, the visits, and the lovely green gifts. We can’t wait to welcome the next friendly faces through the door!

🏠 A Day of Friends, Stories, and Two Wheels! 🏍️
What a fantastic day we’ve had welcoming visitors from near and far to the Cottage! It’s been a steady stream of coffee, great conversation, and shared history.

🌟Our friendly neighborhood farmer, Gordon Beattie, dropped by for a brew and a "chinwag" with John. They took a deep dive into motorcycle history, talking all things Triumph, Norton, and Harley. Gordon even set the record straight—he met the legendary Willie G. in Daytona back in 2003!

The Yorkshire Four: A big shout-out to Joe, Michael, Andy, and Ben. These four pals are currently on a tour of Scotland and found us through Facebook. We’re so glad you included us in your journey—thanks for the recommendation, lads!

From Lincolnshire to Montrose: We were delighted to meet Delia and Simon, who are winding down their Scottish tour by visiting family nearby. It was a pleasure to show you around!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by today. It’s the people and their stories that truly keep the Davidson legacy alive.

Dublin today, Killarney tomorrow! 🏍️✨

We are hitting the cobbled streets of Dublin to spread the word about The Davidson Legacy Cottage!

We stopped by Murphy’s Harley Davidson to leave some flyers and check out their epic wall of patches. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇮🇪
Even better—we’ve officially left our own mark! Keep an eye out for The Davidson Legacy Cottage patch we just added to the wall next time you pop in!

After that, it was time to refuel the crew at the Hard Rock Cafe Dublin 🍔🎸 before the next big stretch of the journey.

If you don’t know the history, our cottage in Netherton, Scotland, is the ancestral home of the Davidson family—where the roots of the legendary Harley-Davidson motorcycles began! 🛠️❤️

Next stop: Ireland Bikefest Killarney! We head down tomorrow, and we can’t wait to see everyone there. Make sure to look out for the crew, come grab a flyer, and say hi! We can’t wait to catch up with all the H.O.G POD crew!!
