🛠️🎨 PENDLE MAKERSPACE – WE'VE GOT BIG PLANS!

We're slowly building something pretty special at Pendle Makerspace, and we're really proud of the equipment we've managed to get together so far!

Just look at what we already have! 👇

But we're not stopping there!

Our dream is to create a Community Skills Hub where people can learn everything from traditional crafts and practical DIY to modern technology and digital manufacturing.

Yes, we know, it's quite a list! But we've got big ambitions!

💡 WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO ACHIEVE?

We want to create a place where anyone can walk through the door, learn something new and have access to equipment they might never be able to afford themselves.

A place where young people can explore design and technology, women can gain confidence using tools, older people can socialise, people can discover new hobbies and budding entrepreneurs can turn their creative ideas into real products.

We want to bring traditional skills and modern technology together under one roof, making creativity, learning and practical skills accessible to our community.

❤️ And we want to make it affordable for everyone.

We're a small Community Interest Company, so any money we make goes straight back into creating more opportunities for local people.

We're always interested in hearing from businesses, manufacturers or organisations who might be able to support us with equipment donations, sponsorship or partnerships.

And we'd love to hear from our community too!

Our little brain mascot is FINISHED! ✨🧠

He's had a coat of resin and is now looking all lovely and shiny! 😍

From a random idea to our very own Pendle Makerspace mascot! He's going to be hanging around the Makerspace, keeping an eye on all the creativity and chaos! 😂

Creativity really is a form of therapy! Getting stuck into making something, switching off from everyday worries and focusing on what's in front of you can do wonders for your mental health. You don't have to be artistic or particularly good at making things to feel the benefits.

Sometimes it's not about what you make, but how making it makes you feel.

We think he's turned out rather cute!

🎃👻 A Lovely Relaxing Afternoon at Pendle Makerspace! 🧡

We had such a lovely, relaxed workshop today making our own wooden Halloween creations!

A bit of painting, a bit of creativity, plenty of chatting and just enjoying a few hours doing something different.

🧠💡 WE'VE GOT A NEW LITTLE TEAM MEMBER… BUT HE NEEDS A NAME!

Everybody meet the newest member of Pendle Makerspace!

He's small, pink, full of bright ideas and looks like he might be a little bit cheeky! 😂

You'll soon start spotting this little fella hanging around the Makerspace, popping up on our posters, getting involved in our workshops and generally sticking his nose into everything we do!

🧠 So why a brain?

Because at Pendle Makerspace, everything starts with an idea! 💡

Whether you're building something, learning to use a power tool, getting crafty or just having a go at something you've never tried before, it's all about getting those creative brains working!

And sometimes the daftest ideas turn into the best creations! 😂

He's here to remind everyone that you don't have to be an expert to be creative. Just bring your imagination, have a go and don't worry if things go a bit wonky!

BUT… we've got one little problem!

The poor fella hasn't got a name! 🥹

We want something funny, quirky, cute or completely bonkers!

We’re getting into the Halloween spirit at Pendle Makerspace this week!

As part of The Rosie Project, we’ll be making some lovely wooden home decorations, from spooky little ghosts and pumpkins to rustic tealight holders. 👻

You don't need any experience, and you certainly don't need to be good at DIY. That's what we're here for!

🧠💡 When you get an idea in your head and just HAVE to make it! 😂

Today's little project at Pendle Makerspace!

Started with a picture of a happy little brain and thought… We NEED to make that!

Out came the jigsaw to cut the shape, followed by a coat of primer, then the fun bit… painting!

Still another coat to do but he's starting to look rather fabulous! 🩷💚

Next step is a coat of resin over the top to give him a lovely, shiny finish! ✨

This is what I love about having a makerspace. You can have a completely random idea and actually bring it to life!

Come back for the finished creation 🧠💡

We want to ask everyone who has visited Pendle Makerspace something 👀

What did you think the first time you walked through our doors? Either the workshop or music studio…

We’ve always wanted the Makerspace to feel a little different — colourful, retro, fun, creative and, let’s face it… a little bit bonkers 😂

We definitely didn’t want it to feel like a classroom or a typical community space.

But we want to hear it from YOU!

What was your first impression?

Home Education Workshops – Update

Our Home Education workshops are going to be on hold until further notice while we take some time to restructure the sessions and make sure they work well for everyone.

Because we use real tools, equipment and machinery at Pendle Makerspace, health and safety has to be our main priority, particularly when working with children and young people.

We want the sessions to be fun, creative and really hands-on, but we also need to make sure we have the right structure, staffing and safety measures in place.

Going forward, rather than running the sessions as individual drop-ins, we will be offering a structured course running one day a week over 3 weeks. This will give young people the chance to build their skills and confidence gradually, learn how to use tools safely and work towards completing their own projects.

We’ll share more information about the new course, dates and booking soon.

We had loads of fun today painting letters! 🎨🖌️

We learnt a little about traditional signwriting, the techniques used and the amazing skill that goes into creating hand-painted signs.

We couldn’t use all the traditional techniques today as some of the specialist equipment and materials are pretty expensive to buy for everyone — but hopefully one day we will!

We DID, however, have a go with gold leaf… which mostly resulted in me making a big mushy mess 😂✨ Turns out there’s definitely a reason people spend years learning this stuff!

It was also brilliant to see some of the younger ones getting involved and interested in traditional signwriting too. Keeping these old creative skills alive and getting a new generation interested in them is exactly what a makerspace should be about.

Loads of experimenting, loads of learning and plenty of mess. Just how we like it at Pendle Makerspace. ❤️
