Building Bridges Pendle

Building Bridges Pendle Welcome to Building Bridges! We connect individuals from all backgrounds through engaging activities and events.

Join us in celebrating diversity and fostering a stronger, united community! Building Bridges Pendle is an interfaith organisation and a registered charity which wants to bring a realisation that diversity, is a positive aspect in the make-up of our society. People must view differences in Culture and Faith as richness and be aware of commonalities in our identity as citizens of a multi-cultural and multi-faith country.

A great CPD session with our national partners, The Linking Network, supporting our Pendle Schools Linking Network teachers through the linking journey.

Together, we explored what makes a successful school link and the theory behind why linking is so important for children and young people in Pendle. These connections create meaningful opportunities for pupils to build understanding, develop empathy, and importantly, reduce stereotypes.

Thank you to everyone who took part and continues to champion this important work across our schools.

Pendle Schools Linking Network; Learning Through Dialogue:

Year 7 pupils from Marsden Heights Community College and Park High School have been taking part in an important learning experience exploring attitudes towards diversity, racism and community cohesion.

Through the programme, pupils have stepped outside their comfort zones to take part in meaningful and sometimes challenging conversations — reflecting on different perspectives and how we move forward with greater understanding and respect for one another.

Now, these pupils are touring their respective schools, engaging fellow Year 7 classes in interactive discussions, helping to spark wider conversations about acceptance, belonging and how we build stronger communities together.

It’s inspiring to see young people taking the lead and becoming positive voices for the future.

We’re delighted to welcome Lauren, who will be working with us over the next few months on our Good Neighbours initiative 🌿

Lauren will be out and about reconnecting with local residents, meeting new neighbours and helping us celebrate the amazing community spirit across our neighbourhoods. She’ll also be organising a special Good Neighbours Celebration event; a chance to say thank you and bring people together.

Most importantly, Lauren will be listening - she’ll be working alongside local people to help shape what the next chapter of Good Neighbours looks like.

A lovely, lively week at the Colne Muni with Year 3 pupils from Lomeshaye Primary and Park Primary, coming together through our Schools Linking programme. 🌟

Building friendships, exploring identity and learning to work as one community. Even better - children will be meeting again over the coming weeks as they visit each other’s schools to keep those connections growing.

Proud of every child who took part 👌❤️ and thank you to Stage Door for their support.

Yesterday’s Families Making Friends gathering was a really special afternoon - full of conversation, connection and shared food.

It was lovely to see parents and children spending time together, meeting new people and strengthening the relationships that help make our communities feel welcoming and connected.

One parent, shared afterwards, “Thank you for a lovely afternoon. It was really nice to meet new people, all from different backgrounds, learn a bit about each other and share a delicious meal together. We will look forward to the next event.”

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such a relaxed and positive space. We’re already looking forward to the next one 🌱

Pendle Festival of Culture will take place this year on Saturday 27th June 12noon-6pm.

All the usual celebrating, eating, creating and making memories with loved ones, plus some new twists and surprises to keep things fresh!

“Many towns and cities have festivals celebrating diversity, but one of the things that makes Pendle Festival of Culture unique is the Peace Walks. The banners and flags created in artist-led workshops, carried by people from different areas of Pendle arrive in the centre of Nelson to start the festival. It's a symbolic and physical coming-together of different communities across our area representing unity, peace and fun!” - Holly Noonan, Building Bridges.”

For more information about how you can get involved with the festival and to register for any of the Peace Walks and flag kit, email [email protected].

Pendle Festival of Culture is a This is Nelson event, run in partnership with Building Bridges, In-Situ, Super Slow Way, Nelson Town Council and Pendle Council.

A brilliant day of creativity and collaboration at our artist workshop.

Pupils from Lord Street Primary and St Paul’s CE Primary schools are working together to create two large-scale installations for the historic Aisled Barn at Wycollar, guided by local artist Annette Marti.

A fantastic example of what’s possible through the Pendle Schools Linking Network and Pendle Cultural Education Partnership.

Pendle CEP has commissioned artist to work with Year 8 students from 4 local schools through a series of creative workshops held at Building Bridges Pendle. Bringing two schools together at a time, students explored ideas, created original design work, and learned about creative careers directly from a professional artist.

Charlotte has since taken inspiration from the students’ designs, developing them into a large-scale, vibrant mural title Folded Forest that will be installed on the hoardings surrounding Pendle Rise during its demolition and rebuild, as well as at Sagar Street.

In the spring, Nelson & Colne College students will work alongside Charlotte (Emmeline North) to help install the murals; creating a powerful collaboration between young people at different stages of their creative journeys.

This project supports the aims of the Pendle Schools Linking Network, using creativity to build connections, understanding and pride across Pendle.

A brilliant example of creativity, collaboration and young people shaping Pendle’s future. Keep your eyes peeled for the finished result.

Our Shared Futures – Together We Belong, Together We Grow.

After many years of working alongside residents, schools and partners with our current 'Good Neighbours' scheme, we’re entering an early phase of our new 'Our Shared Futures' plan with a continued focus on dialogue, shared action and community leadership.

We’re delighted to share some important news: BBPendle has been awarded £82,600 from The Clothworkers Foundation towards the purchase of our premises from Pendle Borough Council, helping to secure a permanent, community-owned base for our work. https://www.clothworkersfoundation.org.uk/

We’re also awaiting decisions on further funding applications that would enable us to bring the ground floor of the building and the Talking Lounge into full community use, creating more accessible space for connection, conversation and shared activity.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support this journey.
