People's Assembly
Let's bring Hope into the open
Thursday 21st May 1-3pm
Netherfield Gardens, Nelson (opposite Farmhouse Biscuits)

Join for a People's Assembly exploring Hope Not Hate's A Million Acts of Hope

Local people have been working with Patrick Spain and Burnley and Pendle Accessibility Campaign to plant fruit and nut trees from around the world, developing an edible trail across the town.

Come and join to celebrate this amazing addition to Nelson's green spaces and help plant some herbs to add to the space on the day.

You can also join in with:

- Creative Activities from artist Nazia Sultana and the Pendle Festival of Culture team making flags and décor for the Festival on Saturday 27th June.
- Talkaoke, the talking and listening station where you can explore ideas for how to bring hope back out into the open
- Eating locally cooked food from Zinat at Saffron Kitchen

People’s Assembly 💛
Let’s bring hope into the open 🌼

Join us for a People’s Assembly linked to HOPE Not hate’s A Million Acts of Hope: a campaign to bring hope out into the open.

Patrick Spain from Burnley and Pendle Accessibility Campaign (BPAC) has been working with lots of different local people over the last few months to plant fruit and nut trees from around the world, as the beginning of an edible trail he is developing across the town.

Join us to celebrate this amazing addition to a Nelson green space and help plant some herbs to add to the space on the day!

There will also be:

🌼Creative activities from artist Nazia Sultana and the Pendle Festival of Culture team making flags and decor for the Festival in June.

🌼Talkaoke, join us for a special conversation exploring ideas for how to bring hope back out into the open.

As part of Colne’s Town of Culture bid, we’re gathering feedback from the community through a series of short surveys – and there’s still time to have your say.

Whether you’re a resident, visitor, creative practitioner or a young person studying locally, your insight will help shape the future cultural programme for the town. Your responses will directly inform the plans, partnerships and opportunities we put forward as part of the bid.

Local women joined arts curator Attia Shiraz for a communal music listening session at Nelson's Brunch Corner.

Attia brought with her a very old collection of traditional Sufi and folklore music on Vinyls to explore with this intergenerational group of women - who used these as a starting point to reconnect with memories from their past, (as well as enjoying the lovely Parathas, Daal, Channa & Karak tea!)

Thanks to Brunch Corner who closed specially for us to hold this event - which involved conversations about what future night time gatherings for women in Pendle could look like.

Attia Shiraz is an independent curator based in London who explores the intersections of visual arts, music, and the cultural histories of South Asia and its diaspora.
