Today we're celebrating the contributions, resilience and value of older people across Neath Port Talbot.

Over the last year, Age Connects Neath Port Talbot has been proud to support older people in our communities through information, advice, wellbeing activities, practical support and volunteering opportunities.

📊 Our impact in NPT (April 2025 - March 2026):

☎️ 8,000 calls handled
👥 4,454 people supported
💷 £1.21 million secured in unclaimed benefits
❤️ 5,444 volunteer hours contributed
🏘️ 657 community and outreach sessions delivered
🦶 3,175 foot care appointments provided

Behind every statistic is a person whose life has been improved through the right support at the right time.

Today we celebrate the International Day of Older Persons!

As an organisation, every year we mark the International Day of Older Persons - a global day dedicated to recognising the vital contributions older people make to our communities and shining a light on the issues that shape their lives.

Established by the United Nations in 1990 and first celebrated in 1991, the day has grown in significance as the world’s population continues to age rapidly. Between 1980 and 2021, the number of people aged 65 and over tripled from 260 million to 761 million, and by 2050 older adults are expected to represent around 17% of the global population.

This demographic shift brings both opportunities and challenges, making it essential for societies to adapt. The ability of older people to stay active, independent and engaged depends not only on their own health but also on the social and physical environments around them. Supportive communities, accessible services and age‑friendly spaces play a crucial role in helping people live well as they age.

The International Day of Older Persons serves as a reminder of the need to champion these changes and ensure older people’s voices remain central in shaping the future.

Do you want to help people stay warm, reduce their energy costs and improve their quality of life?

Age Connects Neath Port Talbot is recruiting an Energy Efficiency Officer to support older and vulnerable residents experiencing fuel poverty, rising energy bills and cost of living pressures.

You'll provide practical energy advice, carry out home visits and community outreach, help people access grants and support schemes, and make a genuine difference to local residents facing financial hardship.

📍 Based: Alfred Street, Neath (with travel across Neath Port Talbot and Swansea)
⏰ 22.5 hours per week
💷 Circa £28,800 p.a.
🌴 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata)
📅 Initially funded until July 2028 (with opportunity for extension)

This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly team and help vulnerable households become more energy efficient, financially resilient and confident in managing their energy needs.

Would you like to make a real difference to the lives of older people across Neath Port Talbot and Swansea?

Age Connects Neath Port Talbot is looking for a passionate and motivated Community Development Officer to lead the delivery of our Good Neighbour Scheme.

This rewarding role will help tackle loneliness, isolation and disadvantage by supporting older people to stay connected, independent and active within their communities. You'll work closely with volunteers, community groups and partner organisations to deliver practical support and improve wellbeing.

📍 Based: Alfred Street, Neath
⏰ 37.5 hours per week (job share considered)
💷 Circa £28,800 p.a.
🌴 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata)
📅 Initially funded until 31 March 2027 (with opportunity for extension)
