Green Hive is dedicated to nurturing local people and providing opportunities to sustain and improve the public spaces and natural places of Nairn and Nairnshire Green Hive is a hive of activity for all kinds of green projects that benefit the environment and the people of Nairn, where local people design, manage, deliver and achieve local projects. We have organised local litter picks, are about

to launch a leaf collection and mulching project at Viewfield for the benefit of the park and local residents, and are working out the details of a Handy Neighbour scheme. We think it might be good to do more litter picks and start up a Nairn based “upcycling” project where things like furniture, computers and bikes are collected, refurbished and then sold at affordable prices. We want to be ‘hands on’ and do practical things to improve our environment, services for people, learning and employability. We want to do these things with fun and enjoyment for all. Everyone is welcome to tell us what is needed and give us views on what we are doing. For example what practical things can we do to help improve health & wellbeing, our environment or local economic development? Please let us know what you think your area needs.

What a pleasant surprise a few days ago when BBC Breakfast ran a piece on 'Britain's Favourite Benches', and featured the decorative bench in 100% recycled plastics that Green Hive's Community Workshop produced in 2024 in memory of David Bunker Main, skipper of the INS 185 Strathnairn - last commercial trawler to work out of Nairn harbour.

We've had enquiries about when Fishertown Mixtape is likely to finish on Saturday. We'll probably start winding things down at around 8pm.

Which means there'll be plenty still to catch if you're working til 5pm at one of the many local businesses who've been good enough to support our events, including: Vinyl 2 Vintage, The Highland Weigh, SKY Delights, Nairn, The Flower Shop Nairn, Vitamin Sea Nairn Gift Shop & Printing, Nairn Library, Nairn BID, Strachans of Nairn, Ink and Pink, Clarks of Nairn, Basil Harbour Cafe, James's at the putting green, Strathnairn Beach Cafe, Pat Fraser Electrical, Nairn Loves Local, Nairn Community & Arts Centre and many others.

It also means you can head on afterwards for some cracking gigs at the Bandstand Bar & Restaurant (the official Festival Bar for this year's Nairn Book and Arts Festival), where Jazzyness are playing from 8.30pm, and The Havelock where Los Supremos take the stage at 9.30pm. We've spoken to the Fishertown Mixtape boys, and they're apparently going to both!
