Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT) were contacted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS), after two dog walkers discovered a casualty collapsed in woodland. The dog walkers immediately commenced CPR and continued until the arrival of YAS crews.

Team members from CVSRT were joined by members from Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team (HVMRT) and worked together to transfer the casualty onto the stretcher and transport them to the ambulance, while ongoing support was maintained using an automated CPR device. Due to the terrain, a back-rope system was employed to safely control the stretcher over a particularly steep section.

Thank you to the two members of the public whose quick actions and knowledge of first aid really made a difference, to YAS and to HVMRT for coming to assist us.

We’re Harveys of Halifax Charity of the Month!

Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team is delighted to be chosen as Harveys' charity of the month for June — and we want to say a huge thank you to the Harveys' team for supporting our volunteer‑run emergency service.

We’ll be in store every Friday and Saturday throughout June (with the exception of the 20th), so please pop by for a chat, meet some of the team, and find out more about the work we do.

To mark our 60th year, we’ll also have our special Kate Lycett anniversary neck tubes and limited‑edition mugs on sale. These make perfect gifts and are a great way to support the team.

Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team received a request from Yorkshire Ambulance Service for assistance with the evacuation of a mountain biker who had fallen from their bike, sustaining a shoulder injury while riding on the hillside.

The casualty was treated on scene by YAS and CVSRT, including the administration of analgesia. The casualty was then carefully placed on to a stretcher and secured before being carried from the hillside, allowing for a safe and efficient transfer to onward care.

We wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery.

This June, a group of pupils and staff of The William Henry Smith School will take on the mighty Three Peaks Challenge in support of Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team. Their commitment to tackling the highest summits in England, Scotland and Wales to help our volunteer service is both inspiring and deeply appreciated.

From 15th -19th June, a determined group of boys and staff from The William Henry Smith Foundation will take on the incredible Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales, to raise vital funds for the Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team

Our Foundation supports school, sixth form and college students with SEMH needs, and this challenge will be a significant physical and mental achievement for everyone involved. It will require resilience, teamwork and determination every step of the way.
But we are doing it for a very important reason.

It is important to us that the charity we support is both closely connected to the nature of the challenge and local to our community. Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team feels like the perfect fit, given the vital work they do supporting people in challenging outdoor environments and across the local area.

The team is made up entirely of volunteers who give their time, energy and skills to help people in urgent need. They are there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, often in difficult, dangerous and unpredictable conditions, to support those who are lost, injured or in crisis.

Every callout costs money. Every piece of equipment matters. Every volunteer needs the right training, clothing and resources to do their job safely and they rely on donations to keep their lifesaving service running. That is why every step we take on the Three Peaks will be for them.

For the boys taking part, this challenge is about more than reaching the summit. It is about learning what can be achieved through determination, teamwork and belief.

Calderdale Way Relay Race - Upper Brockholes, 17.05.2026, 13:40

Race Control contacted CVSRT requesting assistance for a fell runner who had fallen at a stone stile near the top of the Upper Brockholes section of the Calderdale Way.

Two team vehicles (CM1 and CM3) were deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the casualty was located and assessed by the team medic. The patient was treated for a lower leg injury and provided with Pain Relief. The patient was placed in a casualty bag for warming, and was evacuated to the ambulance using an Alpine wheeled stretcher.

The casualty was handed over to Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) at 14:47hrs for onward transport to Huddersfield A&E for further treatment.

Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT) were contacted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) to assist with a casualty who had fallen down a steep bank and into a stream, sustaining knee and shoulder injuries.

A member of the public had discovered the injured casualty who was unable to exit the water.

The patient received treatment from Helimed and YAS clinicians, and with support from CVSRT was packaged and transferred by wheeled stretcher to the awaiting air ambulance. The casualty was then airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary by Helimed 98 (Yorkshire Air Ambulance).

We wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery.

Fundraising Update – Hebden Bridge Golf Club

Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team is delighted to thank Hebden Bridge Golf Club and Mr Laurie Dyer, Captain of Hebden Bridge Golf Club for 2025/2026, for choosing CVSRT as his nominated charity throughout his captaincy year.

Laurie added a fun twist to the season with a fundraising forfeit on the 4th hole at Skip: any golfer who went out of bounds donated £1 to CVSRT. This challenge alone raised £184!

Captain’s Day brought even more support, with members, guests, and prize donors helping to raise an additional £796.

Laurie has now donated a fantastic £980 to support our voluntary emergency service.

A big thank you to Laurie and to everyone at Hebden Bridge Golf Club who contributed. Your support directly strengthens the work we do across the Calder Valley.

Always ready to assist our neighbouring teams.

🚨 Missing person search 25-26 April

Last weekend we were contacted by West Yorkshire Police shortly before 9pm on Saturday to assist with a search for a missing person in their nineties.

Given their age and vulnerability we deployed the full team immediately. On arrival we mapped the search areas the police had asked us to cover and by 5am we had covered all the search areas, sadly making no find.

Later that morning after a few hours' sleep we were contacted by the police again after new CCTV evidence had emerged which changed the focus of the search, and we once again deployed the team to a new search area. Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team kindly came to our assistance, deploying their team members to help boost numbers.

Whilst travelling to the area we heard from WYP that the missing person had been found, alive and well, but that they were on a steep, brambly banking and needed our help to extricate and get them to an ambulance.

The extraction went well, with HVMRT members and CVSRT members working together to get the casualty to the ambulance.

Remarkably, at 91 years old and having spent all night out in near zero temperatures, the casualty was in good spirits and chatting with us. We take our hats off! We offer our very best wishes to the casualty and their family after undoubtedly a very scary incident.
