It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of Flintshire County Councillor Hilary McGuill. She was always a big supporter of the Scout Group and will be missed. Our thoughts are with her friends and family at this sad time.

It is with deep sadness we have to report the passing of Councillor Hilary McGuill, a colleague whose decades of service shaped not only Flintshire County Council and her ward of Argoed and New Brighton but also the very heart of the Flintshire Liberal Democrats.

Hilary’s commitment to public life was extraordinary in its length, its consistency and its integrity. She gave so much of herself to this county, and she did so with a sense of duty that never wavered.

Throughout her many years representing our party and her community, Hilary brought a steadfastness and moral clarity that earned deep respect across political lines. She approached every responsibility with determination and a quiet strength. Even when facing personal challenges, she remained resolute, guided by the belief that public service must always be rooted in fairness, compassion and respect for every individual.

Her work was always centred on the wellbeing of residents. Hilary had a particular concern for those who were vulnerable or displaced, and she played a vital role in supporting Afghan families as they settled into our communities. She offered not only practical help but genuine welcome, ensuring that people arriving in difficult circumstances found dignity, safety and a sense of belonging. That kindness was not an exception—it was who she was, every day.

Among Liberal Democrat colleagues, Hilary was valued for her experience, her thoughtful judgement and her deep humanity. She brought clarity to complex issues and never lost sight of the people behind the policies. Her commitment to social justice and her belief in giving a voice to those who might otherwise go unheard were evident in everything she did. Her presence—steady, principled and warm—will be profoundly missed.

To her family, her friends, and the community she served with such dedication, we extend our heartfelt condolences. Flintshire has lost a devoted public servant, our party has lost a trusted and longstanding colleague, and many of us have lost a friend.

May we honour Hilary’s memory by continuing the work she cared about so deeply, and by upholding the values she embodied throughout her long and distinguished service.

Rest in peace Hilary!

Details of the funeral arrangements will be made available once known.

AMAZING! Thank you so much to everyone who donated gifts to us to pass onto North Wales Superkids collection 👏

We took a mini bus full of presents that will help lots of children this Christmas 🎄 🎅

Thank you to Buckley lodge for their kind donation of £200 which we spent on toys so that even more children will have something on Christmas morning to unwrap.

Thank you to Kirstie Jones, Nigel Conor, Mike Coombs and Philip Hughes for their support of this great initiative at Christmas.

Wishing all children everywhere enjoy the magic of a gift this Christmas.

Merry Christmas.

Did you know, almost 1.5 million older people feel more lonely at Christmas than any other time of year? 1st Mynydd Isa Scouts wanted to take part in to help the elderly in our community. Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers from age 4 to 18 took part and 100 Christmas cards were handmade, filled with love and kindness. These were then handed out to the care homes in our community. Residents at Marleyfields House in Buckley, Llys Jasmine in Mold, Chestnut House, Hope and Bistre Care home in Buckley received the festive cards. This brought alot of smiles and joy to the residents, especially those that have had no other Christmas cards this year. Marleyfields House residents also had a special visit from our crafting Squirrels who helped them get in the festive mood with carols and craft.

Remember this Christmas, check in on your elderly neighbours. Spend some time to chat and say hello 👋.

Pete our Group President tonight was awarded his 30 year service award for volunteering. That is more than some people do at work!

I was also very proud to award him his Silver Acorn award. This is one of the top national awards you can ever receive in the Scouts and he will appear on the national awards order in the new year.

Well done Pete! 👏
