AUTUMN BIRD MIGRATION IN THE UK! 🍂
As the days grow shorter, autumn brings one of nature’s most fascinating spectacles, bird migration! 🍁
Every year, birds across the UK take to the skies on incredible journeys as the seasons change. Some of our summer visitors begin their long journeys south to warmer wintering grounds, while other species arrive from colder parts of Europe and beyond to spend the winter here! 🌍✈️
Who’s leaving us? 🧡
Species such as Swallows, Swifts, Cuckoos, Ospreys and Nightjars are among the birds that migrate away from the UK, travelling to destinations across Africa and southern Europe.
Who’s arriving? 💚
We welcome winter visitors such as Bewick’s Swans, Whooper Swans, Fieldfares, Redwings and White-fronted Geese, travelling from places including Iceland, Scandinavia and Russia to take advantage of our milder winters and plentiful food! 🌱
Migration is a remarkable reminder of how connected our natural world really is. Every journey is a challenge, and birds rely on safe habitats, suitable feeding grounds and places to rest along the way. Next time you're out for an autumn walk, keep your eyes on the skies and your ears open, you never know what might be passing through! 🌎
