Big thanks to Tarmac Mountsorrel Quarry who have donated a second lot of 9 tonnes of fine stone to finish the topping off of our Adventure trail woodland path! Not only that, but this time they kindly provided several members of their staff to come and help us lay the new path surface as part of a corporate volunteering day!

All the stone was shoveled into barrows and pushed some considerable distance to be dropped along the path, so they certainly got their steps in that day! Big thanks as well to our Heritage Centre volunteer team who also lent a hand moving the stone.

Once mother nature has rained on it and then baked it with sunshine, the fine stone will form a hard surface to allow wheel chair visitors and visitors with prams/buggies, to experience the woodland walk without having to contend with mud in wet weather.

Thanks again to Tarmac for all their help and support!

Last November we opened our new wheelchair accessible Tree House, which has proved very popular with all our visitors (see our post from November. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1LSnpCuCdi/

You'll find the Tree House half way around the Heritage Centre's Adventure Trail.

The trail path was great in dry weather and access to the Tree House was no problem, but during periods of wet weather the path leading to it would become very muddy indeed. It's no good having a wonderfully accessible Tree House if wheel chair users get bogged down in the mud getting to it!

So we asked our wonderful friends at Tarmac Mountsorrel Quarry if they could donate 9 tonnes of stone and quarry fines for our volunteers to lay to create a firm path surface so all our visitors, including those with wheel chairs and prams/push chairs, could all access the Tree House. They kindly agreed and the stone was delivered last Monday and by lunchtime on Tuesday our volunteers had created the new path!

Mother nature needs to do her bit now, with a few doses of rain and then spring sunshine to dry the stone and we'll have the perfect firm surface.

Massive thanks to Tarmac Mountsorrel Quarry for their support and to our volunteers for shovelling and barrowing the 9 tonnes of stone!
