Neil Maggs highlights the importance of youth clubs in his excellent documentary, The Return of the Youth Club, which was broadcast yesterday on BBC Radio 4 and available on BBC Sounds here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m00316qw

The programme explores the vital role youth work plays in young people's lives, showing how youth clubs provide trusted relationships, opportunities for personal development and support before challenges reach crisis point. It also features Emma Warren, author of Up the Youth Club, who reflects on the impact of youth club closures and the loss of spaces where young people can build confidence, relationships and a sense of belonging.

Claire Evans from Manchester City Council shares how Manchester's Young Futures Hub are putting youth workers at the centre of multi-agency support to help young people stay safe, provide early support for their for mental health and open up opportunities to promote engagement with education, training and employment.

The programme highlights the need for more qualified youth workers and greater recognition of their particular skills. It also underscores the NYA’s commitment to creating a flexible and more accessible training pathway to attract new entrants into the profession and raise the skills of those already working and volunteering in youth work.
