Mary Lou Williams was a hugely influential figure who lived and played through the entire history of jazz, from ragtime to free.

She wrote and arranged for Duke Ellington and taught Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker and Miles Davis.

Experience her restless and inquisitive spirit being lovingly channelled by Adam Fairhall and Johnny Hunter, who explore her music on piano and snare drum.

โ€œA wonderfully evocative and enjoyable tribute to a jazz master, by two highly reflective and creative musicians.โ€ โ€“ The Wire

Dorian Ralston and Eleanor Adamson, two young Morecambe change-makers, were invited to Westminster this week alongside More Musicโ€™s Exec Director Marianne Barraclough to present evidence to the Coastal Communities All Party Parliamentary Group.

Sixteen young people from coastal communities in Bridlington, Felixstowe, Ramsgate, Isle of Sheppey, Torbay, Weston Super-Mare, Blackpool, Whitehaven, and Morecambe visited Westminster to meet with MPs including our local MP Lizzi Collinge. The APPG youth evidence session was in partnership with The Guardian, and their Against The Tide series, which featured Morecambe and More Music last year, and the Coastal Navigators Network, both of which seek to highlight the challenges and opportunities for young people living in coastal communities.

We were proud to have Morecambe represented by two brilliant young adults from Morecambe, who shared their experiences so freely in the hope of bringing about meaningful change. They spoke warmly about the positive experiences they have had through engaging with Morecambe Music and made us even more determined to continue to raise funds to enable us to offer safe, welcoming spaces for young people to make music and to socialise.

Following an agreement from MPs to take the issues raised by the young people forward, Lizzi Collinge gave our group a private tour of The Houses of Parliament!

The futureโ€™s looking positive wiith people like Dorian and Eleanor leading the way!

๐Ÿ™ VOTE FROM NOW UNTIL 8PM ON THURSDAY 21ST MAY for the Eden Project: Bring Me Sunshine Garden to win the RHS/BBCโ€™s Peopleโ€™s Choice award at this year's Chelsea Flower Show!!

Young people from More Music's Eco Collective shared their ideas for this beautiful, sustainable garden when visitors from Eden Project Morecambe and garden designers Harry Holding Studio came to share their initial plans at More Music back in January 2025, and the wider community also gave input during Three Degrees Festival last July!

Created with sustainability, resilience and community at its heart, and backed by Jamie Oliver, who visited today, the garden has been inspired by hope and regeneration and will form part of a 1.5 acre community garden at Eden Project Morecambe - as you can see on the digital illustrations here!

โญ๏ธ A Million Acts of Hope โญ๏ธ

A Million Acts of Hope celebrates the everyday actions that help people feel connected, supported and less alone.

This week were celebrating the acts of hope that are created every day in the Lancaster District...

At More Music in Morecambe, acts of hope emerge from rehearsal rooms to around the shared joy of singing tables...

More Music has a young personโ€™s social prescriber whose role is to support young people experiencing poor mental health, social isolation and anxiety.

One parent recently shared the impact this support has had on their daughter following a mental health crisis:

More Musicโ€™s Seagull Cafรฉ offers a relaxed singing session for people over 60.

Every Tuesday, Janet (69), retired from the NHS, arrives early to wait for her friend Joan (88), who has recently moved into residential care following health issues. Joanโ€™s family were worried she might no longer be able to attend, but Janet simply says, โ€œ๐™Ž๐™๐™š ๐™ž๐™จ ๐™ก๐™ž๐™ ๐™š ๐™›๐™–๐™ข๐™ž๐™ก๐™ฎ ๐™ฃ๐™ค๐™ฌ.โ€

Together they enjoy the music and singing side by side.
Two generations, two stories, one powerful reminder that connection, creativity and kindness can help people recover, belong and look forward again.

Hope happens here.
