πŸ‘ Julia & Sophia – Sisters Who Refused to Give Up
Meet Julia and Sophia β€” two sisters whose strength and love for one another changed the course of their lives πŸ’›

After facing gender-based violence and being abandoned by their parents, the girls were left with their elderly grandmother and no means to continue school.
Sophia, the eldest, dropped out to work doing errands in her village.

But Julia spoke up.

She shared their story with us β€” not just for herself, but for her sister. That moment of courage sparked a ripple effect of kindness and change.

Thanks to the generosity of their sponsor, Catherine,
both girls were welcomed into safety at Ortum Girls. They sat their Kenya Primary exams in 2022 and are now thriving at secondary school, aiming to finish in 2026 πŸ“š

Julia dreams of going to university and helping others.
Sophia is preparing for a vocational path where she can build a secure, independent future.

✨ Their journey is a powerful reminder of what happens when we listen, believe, and act.

To all our amazing sponsors – thank you for giving girls like Julia and Sophia the chance to dream again.

πŸŽΆπŸ’› The Song That Carried Us Through

During one of the hardest times β€” COVID β€” this song helped raise funds, lift spirits, and keep our work going.

Performed in support of One Woman at a Time, it reminds us of the power of music, community, and standing together when it matters most.

🎀 With thanks to Miss Manchester and everyone who supported us through this moment.

Warmer / storytelling version (good for Facebook or LinkedIn)

There's a walk across Morecambe Bay that people have been making since the time of Henry VIII β€” guided across the sands by the King's Guide, because the Bay is beautiful but not to be crossed alone.

This Sunday, that walk raises money for One Woman at a Time, a charity supporting girls fleeing forced marriage and FGM. Seven or eight miles, three or four hours, and one of the most striking landscapes in the North West under your feet.

It's suitable for adults and children (8–16), and even well-behaved dogs are welcome (Β£3 for four legs). Adults Β£20, children Β£10, or Β£50 for a family of four.

Registration is at 12:45pm, walking from 1:30pm, meeting at Arnside Promenade near the Monument (LA5 0HD).

If you've been meaning to do something that's equal parts adventure and good cause β€” this is it. Book via the QR code or call Jean on 07913 389009. 🧑

🧑**Women’s Equality Day – 26 August** 🧑

Today we celebrate Women’s Equality Day β€” a day to recognise the achievements, strength, and contributions of women throughout history and around the world.

Equality means creating a future where every woman and girl has the opportunity to be heard, respected, supported, and empowered to reach her full potential.

Let’s celebrate the women who have broken barriers, challenged expectations, and continue to inspire positive change every day.

Together, we can help build a more equal and inclusive world. ✨
