The IWCF glossary provides definitions for terminology used across our programmes and assessments, supporting consistent understanding among candidates, instructors and assessors worldwide.

To further support our global audience, IWCF has expanded the glossary to include four additional languages (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish South American) and introduced downloadable PDF versions for offline access.

This update strengthens IWCF’s commitment to clear, consistent and accessible well control terminology.

Supporting well control training - globally.🌍

IWCF serves a diverse international candidate base with a wide range of language needs. That’s why we’re committed to making our training programmes and assessments as accessible as possible.

By offering assessments in multiple languages, more candidates can complete IWCF assessments in their native language — helping us support improved competency and understanding worldwide.

Our 3-step language development process ensures all translated well control materials meet the highest linguistic and technical standards, enabling clear communication and safer operations across the globe.✅

In addition to our 3-step process:

• All linguists and reviewers follow the IWCF Question Bank Style Guide for consistent format and style
• A dedicated glossary is used to maintain consistent terminology across all translations
• Candidates can share translation feedback during their assessment or by emailing [email protected]

Happy National Safety Month! 🛡️

At IWCF, safety is fundamental to everything we do. It underpins our mission to support a competent, confident, and resilient global well control workforce.

This month provides an important opportunity to reflect on the wider factors that influence safety performance, including wellbeing, stress awareness, and organisational culture. These elements are closely linked to how individuals and teams perform in high-risk environments.

Across our work, from certification and assessment to training standards and digital development, we continue to reinforce the principle that safety is not a standalone objective, but an integral part of competence and operational excellence.

We welcome your perspective on which value you feel has the greatest impact on strengthening safety across the industry.

As we mark National Safety Month, we would like to invite your reflection on a key question:

🌍 Your voice matters—make sure it’s heard at your next branch meeting! 🗣️

Last week, our Australasian Branch met in person in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Chaired by Thompson, the meeting brought together 19 in-person and 13 virtual attendees, and featured presentations from our CEO Zdenek Sehnal and Wilson, Managing Director and CEO of Labrador-Petro Management.

Being active in your branch gives you the opportunity to share ideas, discuss industry challenges, and support improvements in your region.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed.🤝

Earlier this month, members also met via Microsoft Teams:
🔹 France Branch – chaired by Raphael Alonso, met on 5 May
🔹 Germany Branch – chaired by Dirk Koch, met on 6 May

Want to join the conversation in your region? Check the IWCF Portal for your branch chair’s contact details and updates on future meetings:
