So good to be able to support initiatives like this. It means that far more children with disabilities will be able to use this school, benefitting from free education available in Zambia.
Great to work together with Pamodzi Ndi Ana along with Wheelchairs for Kids Australia to achieve more outcomes like this.

Celebrating Volunteers' Week.....

In February this year another group also travelled to Kenya - 3 volunteers - Viktor, Wendy and Heidi accompanied Bridget, HATW Executive Officer.

Viktor's visit to Kenya with Hands Around the World gave him a firsthand view of how adapted wheelchairs, physiotherapy, and school projects are transforming the lives of children with disabilities. Deeply moved by the dedication of local staff and the impact of the projects, he returned inspired to continue supporting the organisation’s work.

Wendy and Heidi are both HATW trustees and have been several times before to visit Kenya, but as always there were new experiences and new partners to meet.
Wendy and Heidi continue to be committed and dedicated trustees for Hands around the World, giving up their time and expertise to help the office team in all aspects of running the charity. They greatly enjoyed visiting the projects and seeing progress on work that has been completed with the help of HATW. They were also being able to better understand the challenges faced by partners and where help continues to be needed.

Celebrating Volunteers' Week.....

Meet Jenny - Jenny has been out to Zambia twice with HATW and helped at schools we were supporting there. This year she went to Kenya and visited St Lucy's School for the Blind. Hands Around the World has recently launched a Wales-Kenya initiative that will empower students, enhance educational outcomes and promote mutual learning between pupils in Osbaston Church in Wales Primary School in Monmouth, Wales and St Lucy’s Schools for the Blind in Meru County, Kenya. This project is funded by Welsh Government’s Wales and Africa Grants Scheme, administered by WCVA.

Jenny was a teacher and so more at ease in front of a classful of children than the average person! She is helping to develop the links above between these two schools. Spending time in Kenya gave her a better understanding of what life is like for the children there.

Jenny shared tips with the teachers in Kenya, took lessons, helped mark work, played games and generally got involved with life at the school.

Here are a couple of pictures from her visit.

Celebrating Volunteers' Week......

Meet Hazel who has been helping in the HATW office every Monday doing a range of tasks and supporting the team in Monmouth.

There was an opportunity to travel to Zambia and she chose to come....

Volunteering with HATW is a rewarding, exciting, demanding and emotionally challenging experience. People learn about themselves when they are challenged and out of their comfort zone.

On these pictures Hazel is volunteering with a class at a rural school in Mwandi, the children all loved having her. The other image is Hazel reading a story to what she thought would be a few children under a tree - but instead the whole school was gathered - over 300 people! This was seriously outside of Hazel's comfort zone but she did brilliantly! Thank you to the children of Sikuzu school for listening and being so polite.

Well done to all our brilliant volunteers.

This Volunteers’ Week, we want to say a huge THANK YOU to every single person who gives their time, skills, compassion and energy to support Hands Around the World. 💙

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. From helping in our Monmouth office and supporting fundraising events, to sharing professional skills overseas with our partner projects in Rwanda, Zambia, Kenya, Uganda and India — your dedication helps children and communities thrive.

Over the years, more than 600 volunteers have supported HATW projects around the world, helping improve education, health and opportunities for vulnerable children and young people.

Whether you’ve baked cakes, packed envelopes, proofread reports, run marathons, supported children overseas, or simply helped spread the word about our work — you are making a real difference.

Thank you for being part of the HATW family and for helping us build brighter futures together. 🌍

The team have successfully drilled a borehole at Mbozwa rural school in Zambia. They will be installing a solar submission pump next to support this.

Mbozwa school is benefitting from HATW support to develop a school garden and water is an essential element to this being successful. They have had to drill deeper to ensure there is water.
