Amazing turnout for yet another river clean‑up. Big love to all the eco‑warriors who showed up (and those not in the photo) — and a special shout‑out to 𝒊dverde for the support and rubbish removal, Derek at the National Trust for the loan of those big blue barrels and Andrew Cole for the leadership.
This haul included the classics (shopping trolley, bollards) plus some surprises: a child’s scooter, a swing, a tent, bottles, cans, rag, number plates, nappies and even a few coins.

We have received some background from Merton Council head of parks services about the felling of a favourite tree, the Alder (Alnus cordata) in the Recreation Ground by the remembrance garden. Although it had good crown cover its structural integrity was compromised. There was major loss of bark on one side, outward sign of bacterial wetwood which causes long term decline. Expert inspection recommended felling completely. Look around and you will spot 5 new trees in the sports field and another near the children’s nursery.
