🌱 Aden Allotments Open Day Saturday 25th July 11am – 2pm

Aden Allotments are having their annual Open Day, and we’d love to see you there. Come along, support your local allotments, and stock up on tasty produce to take home.

Treat yourself to a burger, a cup of tea or coffee, and a delicious pancake. Spend a few pennies and try your luck at the bottle stall or raffle/ hamper, and load up on home bakes, jams, and pickles. There's something for the kiddies too, so bring the whole family along for a fun day out.
They will also have visiting charity stalls joining them, so please give them your support too. And of course, you’re very welcome to wander around the allotments and see all the wonderful produce we’ve been growing this season.

Wow!! What a day we had for Wild About Aden. The park was so busy, full of families and friends having a grand time. Thank you to all the information stalls for coming along. To Aberdeenshire Council Ranger Service who held events at the Rangers Cabin. Thanks to Greenvolt, Storegga and Aberdeen Science Centre for the STEM activities. Thanks to Emma's Pet Fair in the theatre and Pauline Cordiner, A Scottish Storyteller , who was in the museum. The catering vans did a roaring trade and so did the Aden Cafe and the Friends of Aden & Gift Shop .

We cannot hold these events without volunteers and today they all went above and beyond. Thanks to John, Diane, Ralph and Maureen for their help today and special thanks goes the Police Scotland Volunteers. They really do make a difference at our events.

Again, thank you to our local co-op for the donations of water, crisps and snacks. They certainly helped keep our volunteers hydrated and fed.

We hope you had a great day and see you again next July for Wild About Aden.

🌸 Throughout summer the Fostering Service will again be attending several community events across to hold an information stall. If you've considered fostering but don't know where to start, this is a perfect time to come have an informal chat with someone from our team and pick up a leaflet. So, if you're in the area on these days or plan to attend your local event anyway, come find us and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have 🙂

Wild About Aden is this Thursday - 9th July!!

The weather is looking good, so bring your sun screen, hats and water bottles - there is a Scottish Water Top up Tap in the courtyard for refills.

The Aberdeenshire Farming Museum is also open.

Parking for those attending is £5 per car - CASH only please.
WAA is held us - Buchan Development Partnership. This event is only possible due to donations, such as the parking charge.

Residents, community groups and organisations across Aberdeenshire are being encouraged to have their say on a proposed new festive lights policy which would give local communities greater freedom and control over festive displays in their towns and villages.

Aberdeenshire Council has launched a public engagement survey following an initial review of its current festive lights arrangements, with proposals aimed at moving from a centrally-defined model to a more flexible, community-led approach that puts local people at the heart of decision-making.

The proposed policy has been developed in response to feedback from community groups who have called for greater flexibility to create festive displays that reflect the unique character, culture and identity of their communities.

If approved, the revised framework would allow community groups to apply to install festive lights on any street within their settlement, rather than being restricted to town centres or high-footfall locations as is currently the case.

Key proposals include:

* Removing restrictions on where festive lights can be erected, subject to safety considerations and the suitability of lighting columns

* Allowing communities to fund upgrades to lighting columns where required to support festive displays

* Retaining a council-funded annual electricity allocation, capped at approximately £12,500, based on 2024/25 costs

* Introducing a fairer and more transparent population-based formula for allocating funded electricity across settlements

* Introducing future charges for communities whose electricity usage exceeds their allocated share, with transitional arrangements for areas affected by the changes

* Setting electricity costs for additional usage on a five-year basis, with community groups being invoiced in advance

With 1 week to go for Wild about Aden we would just like to say a massive THANK YOU to our local Co-op store who have very kindly provided us with crisps, biscuits, cartons of Apple and Orange juice and bottles of water for our volunteers on the day.

We cannot run these events in Aden without our amazing volunteers and being able to provide them with lunches and snacks is a small way of saying thank you for all their help.
