Membership is free and open to any community organisation - Community Associations, Community Councils, interest groups etc.

At every Buchan Area Committee meeting, your councillors recognise local good news stories. On Tuesday, they highlighted:

Peterhead Scottish Week's Best of Buchan Award winners -
• Outstanding Local of the Year - Kelly O’Brien
• Jean Clark Volunteer of the Year - Buchan Giving Tree SCIO
• Sporting Achievement of the Year - Buchanhaven Hearts JFC
• Alice McNair Organisation Leader of the Year - Alberteenies
• Teacher of the Year - Claire Eade
• Business of the Year - Natural Skincare Factory
• Musician of the Year - Diane Pert
• Outstanding Contribution to the Community - Terry Moran
• Best of Buchan - North East Tartan Army

Dance Joy Studio for winning the Heart and Soul Award’s Dance School Aberdeen & Shire award as well as being runner up for the Dance School UK award.

Farmlay Eggs for being named Egg Packer of the Year at the National Egg & Poultry Awards 2026.

BDP and Aden Country Park's partners and volunteers for organising another great Wild About Aden event this year.

New Deer Show's committee for organising a fantastic display of agricultural history, trade stands, competitions, shows and much more at this year’s New Deer Show.

The Peterhead Scottish Week committee and volunteers for the 64th Scottish Week which was a fabulous week-long gala for all of Peterhead and it’s visitors.

Peterhead Bowling Club for celebrating their 125th Anniversary and hosting a great day out at their Ryder Cup event earlier this month.

The Peterhead Fire Station Youth Volunteer Scheme team for participating and winning various events at the inaugural SFRS National YVS Games during summer.

Men United for hosting a successful opening day and launching their new hub in Drummer's Corner.

Peterhead Academy Netball Team for winning the Aberdeenshire Schools Championship towards the end of 2025-26 session, going undefeated against all other schools in the process.

North Aberdeenshire Care at Home Service for very good results on a short-notice inspection undertaken late last year.

Abbey Court Very Sheltered Housing team for also achieving very good results on an unannounced inspection in December last year by the Care Inspectorate.

Peterhead Academy’s 25/26 senior phase pupils for achieving the best senior phase results of any Peterhead Academy senior cohort since the introduction of the new National Qualifications.

Mintlaw Academy’s S5/6 pupils for improving the A-C pass rate % for the third year in a row, the senior pupils for achieving the best set of S5 results Mintlaw has recorded in the past ten years.

There was an amazing amount of good news and success in the Buchan area across Summer. A massive well done, congratulations and thank you to all. Remember, if you have good news stories then please share them with your local councillors or with this page 🙂

✨ MINTLAW E-BIKE RIDE ✨

Over the summer we're teaming up with Aberdeenshire Council and Getabout, to celebrate the launch of new venues to the council e-bike hire scheme.

The next of our e-bike rides will be from Mintlaw, where we will explore the local countryside on two e-wheels. The ride will be expertly led by qualified ride leaders, and will be at a gentle pace, with plenty of stops to admire the views.

E-bikes and helmets will be provided for the ride, thanks to hire scheme!

📅 When: Wednesday 19th August; 10.30am
📍 Where: MACBI
🚴‍♂️ The Ride: a lovely ride through Aden Country Park and along the F&B Way to Maud, where we will stop at Platform 5 for a brew. We will return the same way, with the option of exploring a little more of Aden on the way back. The route is around 10 miles in length, and we expect it to be around 3 hours (including cafe stop)
❗️ Don't forget!: refreshments & suitable layers for the Scottish weather
