Who's coming to brave the rain at Minehead Bay Festival today?

Keep an eye out for our admin wandering around with a big roll of paper and some pens - we want everyone to add a line to our HUGE community poem! What we do with said poem will be revealed soon... 😍

Don't forget to swing by the Haybale Circle on the beach at 2:30pm to hear this summer's and last Autumn's winning poems! We'll hopefully have some time to share poems from others, too!

Enjoy the festival, and don't be scared off by the weather!! We're English. We can deal with a bit of wet, eh?!

Thank you to everyone who voted, and of course to all of our submitting poets 👏👏👏

Winning poets below will be invited to read their poems, or have them read, during our 2:30pm Community Poetry Circle in the Haybale Circle on Minehead Beach for tomorrow's Minehead Bay Festival 😍

Come along and listen to your local winning poets, and bring your own work to share after the readings if you'd like! Help us to create a huge poem for Minehead by adding a line of your own to our community poetry project!

🥇 In first place, with 18 votes, is Untitled by Norman Dewhurst 🥇

Well done on upping your Autumn Competition podium position, Norman! Your poem had a lot of visual imagery to help readers really feel the essence of water, and had an important message at the end 💦

🥈 In second place, with 14 votes, is They Say Water Holds Memory by Angela Wensley 🥈

Another climber, congratulations Angela on upping your podium position from Autumn's competition! This was another poem with lots of gorgeous imagery - thank you for helping to celebrate the literary arts in our area, Angela!

John's third place beats his highly commended last summer by some way - well done, John! Your poem had a rhythm that reminded us of the pulse of a strong river, and it holds much relevance to writers everywhere, we're sure!

Ode To Water by Lily Cooper Poem #2 in our posts 💦

Lily is a keen reader, beader and poet writer born in the heart of Somerset. She's a fan of expressing Big Feelings through silly poems, as this helps her to make sense of the world and put her thoughts in order. She's inspired by nature, pleasant and unpleasant sensory sensations, all food, sometimes rage, and love for her pets and partner. She loves a rhyme, this is a staple of her poetry. "If you write in funky rhymes, your notes are awesome all the time."

Poem #4 in our posts is The Water Spirits, by Peter of Exmoor 💦

Peter has lived in West Somerset for nearly 40 years, with family history tracing back centuries to North Molton. He is currently Chair of the Tenants Association of the National Trust and has previously served as Chair and Director of Football for the 120 years old Minehead Football Club. For many years, his poetry was sporadic, created only on emotional occasions for those close to him. Now, almost retired as probably the oldest double glazing salesman in the West, he has found more time to indulge his passionate m for nature and Poetry.
