Unity MK

Unity MK We are a homeless charity in Milton Keynes providing welfare support and overnight winter accommodation. They can be old or young, men and women.

We provide year-round welfare support for the homeless and vulnerable and life-saving overnight accommodation in the winter months. Our Welfare Team enable our guests to recover lost ID, access benefits, access drug and alcohol support services, to obtain housing advice, move on to longer-term accommodation and to find work. People arrive at the Winter Night Shelter for many reasons. Some are long-

term homeless, but many are the victims of circumstance. They may have deteriorating domestic issues; they may have lost jobs and no longer be able to pay for accommodation. Illness, disability, mental health struggles, language barriers and lost or stolen identity documents can all play a part in someone ending up on the street. We help all those in need regardless of whether or not they have recourse to assistance from public funds.

☀️ Hot weather can be dangerous, especially for people experiencing rough sleeping.

If you see someone out in the heat, a small act of kindness can make a real difference:
💧 Offer cold water
🧢 Help them find shade
💬 Check in and ask if they’re okay
📍 Alert StreetLink if they may need support and let them know about our UnityMK homelessness centre @ Unity Park Station.

This week is , celebrating the vital role small charities play in communities across the UK.

We started the week brilliantly with a message from a couple we have been supporting to let us know they had safely arrived in their new area and were already settling in well. Later today, they'll be moving into their new accommodation and taking the next step towards a brighter future.

Moments like these remind us why local charities matter.

At UnityMK, we work alongside people experiencing homelessness, providing practical support, pathways into accommodation, and opportunities to rebuild their lives.

Thank you to everyone who makes this work possible through your support, generosity and belief in our vision of ending homelessness in Milton Keynes.

From the first chat to the final keys. 🔑✨

We couldn't be prouder of the incredible journey this guest has taken - staying dedicated to recovery, passing exams, and now stepping into their brand-new flat.

It takes an immense amount of strength to transform your whole life, and we are privileged to have been part of the support network making it happen.

Stories like this are only possible because of your continued support. Thank you 🧡

We’re proud to once again be taking part in CEO Sleepout MK this November, and we’d love to see more of Milton Keynes’ business community joining Team UnityMK.

If you’re a business leader, please consider signing up. And if you’re not, why not nominate a CEO, director, or senior leader from your organisation to take part?

One night outdoors can help raise vital funds to support people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity across our city.

Who will you nominate? 💙

Gathering the team! Our Bianca was out in Milton Keynes meeting a brilliant bunch of people who are throwing their energy behind this year's CEO Sleepout Milton Keynes campaign.

Ahead of the event at Stadium MK this November, we are so excited to welcome two brand new ambassadors who will be flying our flag across MK, Clare White and Reemal Rabheru. Both experienced business people and both with the most fascinating passion projects outside of work.

One sidelines as a DJ in Ibiza 🪩 and one is a serious Marvel comic collector 🦸🏻♂️. Can you guess which is which?

While there, the team also met the brilliant charities taking part in CEO Sleepout MK this year, UnityMK, The Shelter MK and YMCA South Midlands, as well as the team at Stadium MK to plan how the night will boost the incredible work of MK Dons SET.

It is so good to know that every pound raised this November will go to charities that really do change lives every single day.

If you are in business in Milton Keynes, we really hope to see you there in November. Date TBC 🌙

Amir* came to UnityMK through the Winter Night Shelter and faced significant barriers to moving on from homelessness, including limited English and a lack of local support networks.

Working closely with our team, Amir remained fully engaged with support and began attending English classes at the local library to build his confidence and communication skills. Although accommodation options were identified, delays outside his control meant he was forced to return to rough sleeping after our Winter Night Shelter closed.

When a local volunteer offered the use of an annexe to help someone in need, UnityMK arranged a hosting agreement, providing Amir with safe temporary accommodation while longer-term housing solutions were pursued.

Today, Amir attends English classes twice a week and is taking proactive steps that will hopefully see him soon moving into a more permanent home.

The rain never bothered them anyway... 🎶

Our Community Fundraising Manager, Ria, and amazing volunteer, Donna, helped bring the energy to this year's MKRUFC Ring of Fire Bike Ride Spinathon, keeping the pedals turning while giving their best rendition of Let It Go! 🚴‍♀️🎤❄️

Behind the laughter and singing was something really important: a community coming together to raise funds for local charities, including UnityMK.

We're incredibly grateful to everyone who took part, donated, volunteered and cheered from the sidelines.

Thank you for helping make a difference and for proving that fundraising can be a lot of fun too! 💙

"Meeting so many wonderful people, both volunteers and guests..." 💫

This beautiful quote from one of our Winter Night Shelter volunteers perfectly captures the heart of what we do at UnityMK. Volunteering isn't just about the tasks; it's about the human connections, mutual respect, and community spirit built along the way.

To all our volunteers who bring their friendly, upbeat energy to our services: we appreciate you more than words can say. Happy Volunteers' Week! 🎉

469 volunteers. One incredible community. 💙

This Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating the 469 volunteers who gave their time to support UnityMK across our Winter Night Shelter and Homelessness Centre.

While winter often brings increased awareness of homelessness, the need for support doesn't disappear when the weather gets warmer. Every day, people continue to access our Homelessness Centre for practical help, advice, food, and a safe place to turn.

As many of our regular volunteers take well-earned summer holidays, we're looking for new people to join the team and help us keep these vital services running.

Volunteer shifts are just a few hours long:
☕ Breakfast: 7.45am–10am
🥪 Lunch: 9.30am–12.45pm
👋 Reception: 7.45am–10am or 9.30am–12.45pm

Could you spare a few hours and make a difference in your community?
