Milton Keynes Hospital Charity

Milton Keynes Hospital Charity We make a real difference to the experience of patients, their families, and the staff who care for them at Milton Keynes University Hospital.

Milton Keynes Hospital Charity is the official charity for Milton Keynes University Hospital. We fundraise for all wards and departments, helping to improve the experience of our patients and their families - from our youngest patients on the Neonatal Unit, to older patients on wards such as our Stroke Unit. By supporting the Milton Keynes Hospital Charity you can make a real difference to the liv

es of thousands of people in and around Milton Keynes, when they need it most. All the money we raise funds items that go above and beyond what the NHS provides and we cannot do this without your help. Milton Keynes Hospital Charity aims to make a real and tangible difference within the local community, so if you'd like to get involved, we'd love to hear from you.

💚 Items We Fund: Vein Finders💚

Did you know your donations help us fund specialist equipment like Vein Finders at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust?

Vein Finders are portable devices that use advanced technology to help clinical teams locate veins quickly and accurately. They can be adjusted for different ages, body types and skin tones, making them incredibly versatile in busy clinical environments.

For patients - especially children - this can make a huge difference. Smaller or harder-to-find veins can make procedures distressing, but vein finders help reduce repeated attempts, easing anxiety for both patients and their families.

These devices are a perfect example of how charitable funding supports compassionate care - helping to make hospital experiences less stressful when it matters most.

💚 Thank you for helping us fund vital equipment like this. Every donation truly makes a difference.

A huge thank you to our wonderful regular supporter, Chinwe, from Vinkez Consulting Limited, for her recent donation which has funded 10 portable CD players for patients at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust 🎶

After speaking with Shadi - one of our Lead Nurses at MKUH, Chinwe learned about the powerful role music can play in helping patients to relax, reduce anxiety, and ease distress during their hospital stay. Inspired by this, she kindly chose to support this simple but impactful project. 💚

We’re delighted to share that James (pictured) was one of the first patients to benefit from the new CD players 🎶

Thanks to Chinwe’s generosity, more patients can now enjoy comforting music when they need it most. 💚

Thank you to Chinwe and Vinkez Consulting Limited for making such a meaningful difference to patient care at MKUH. 💚

⚽ With the World Cup kicking off, we’re thinking about the incredible sporting community here in Milton Keynes and we wanted to just take a moment to say a huge thank you to everyone at Hotshots Sports Bar for their incredible head shave fundraiser in support of Tracy and the Cancer Centre at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust 💚

Together, they raised a fantastic £1,181.50 – an amazing achievement that will make a real difference to patients, families and staff. These funds support a number of projects withing our Cancer Centre from the purchase of specialist equipment such as scalp cooling systems and bladder scanners to the creation of patient information videos.

A special shoutout to Vlad for taking on the shave – an amazing gesture, and we’re loving the new look!

🎉 It’s International Day of Play! 🎉

Today, we’re celebrating the power of play and the difference it makes for children receiving care at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust 💚

Play is so much more than fun - it helps children feel safe, reduces anxiety, supports recovery, and brings moments of joy during what can often be a worrying time.

A huge thank you to our incredible Play Team at MKUH, who go above and beyond every day to create a positive, comforting environment for young patients. Their creativity, compassion, and dedication make such a meaningful difference to children and their families.

Thanks to our amazing supporters, we’re proud to help fund and provide:

🖌️ Arts & crafts activities
🧸 Toys and play equipment
💚 Sensory play resources
🌈 Dedicated sensory spaces
🎭 Special visits and experiences that brighten difficult days

A special shoutout to supporter David Ashford for his regular donations of teddies that bring comfort and smiles to our young patients throughout the year.

From craft sessions to magical ward moments, these opportunities for play can truly transform a hospital stay.

Creating a calmer space for difficult conversations - check out these before and after pics!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, the prosthesis room within our Breast Care Unit at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has been beautifully refurbished.

Previously a very clinical space, this room is often used for sensitive conversations between patients and clinical staff. It’s now been transformed into a much more calming, welcoming environment - helping patients feel more comfortable and supported during difficult moments.

This refurbishment has been made possible thanks to charitable donations made at our most recent Gala Ball - thank you to everyone who contributed towards this special project. 💚

We’d also like to say a heartfelt thank you to:

Bosom Pals – for donating a table and flowers to brighten the space
ASDA Milton Keynes – for providing a regular supply of tissues and teabags
Jacqui Kenyon and our amazing Breast Care Team at MKUH – whose passion and dedication helped bring this vision to life.

Together, you are helping to enhance the experience for patients at MKUH when it matters most.

💬 “I just wanted to pass on mine and my family's heartfelt thank you to the butterfly volunteers who supported us and my father, during his end-of-life care. The teddy and blanket that were delivered to him have brought us so much comfort since losing him.

💬 “The work you do is phenomenal and so appreciated. The gentle and sympathetic way we were treated was incredible.”

🦋 This Volunteers Week, we’re shining a light on our incredible Butterfly Volunteers

🦋 Butterfly Volunteers are specially trained volunteers that offer pastoral support, comfort and companionship to patients and their loved ones during the last days and hours of life.

🦋 We believe that no one deserves to die alone, providing a calm and kind presence to patients, their loved ones who may want support, and those who may not have visitors at all.

🦋 Sometimes, the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest impact. Whether its offering respite to a loved one, supporting a family member who just wants a chat or holding someone’s hand. Our volunteer service provides families with care packages of essential items or handmade blankets and bears for patients, that are kept by family members as keepsakes of their loved ones. It might be that we play a patient’s favourite music for the last time.

🦋 Donations play an important role – and many items our volunteers use are funded only through donations to our charity.

🦋 Managed by Lauren, our Butterfly Volunteer Co-ordinator, we have 19 volunteers working across the hospital. Since the service was set up in 2023 our volunteers have made an incredible 1,130 visits to patients and loved ones at end of life. For 2026 this figure is already at 512.

🦋 If you want to learn more about the Butterfly Volunteer Service, or would like to support us by donating, please email [email protected].
