As we announced a month ago, after 20 years of supporting carers in Milton Keynes, providing advice, advocacy, respite, and solidarity to thousands of people, yesterday was our last day of delivering services in the community. We continue to provide support to Carers within the hospital.

From today, the adult carers service will be delivered by Citizens Advice MK, and the young carers service by CHUMS as part of changes commissioned by Milton Keynes City Council.

Members of our team met with local MP Chris Curtis MP last week, who was hugely empathetic about the needs of carers in Milton Keynes. Chris expressed an interest in hearing from carers about how the Carers MK service has supported you, and any concerns you have about the service transition.

Please do share any feedback in the comments section of this post, or by contacting Chris at [email protected]

In the meantime, we wanted to sign off by sharing some of the many messages received since the announcement was made (swipe to read!) Thank you to everyone who has reached out. It’s been a privilege to support you all!

No time for meditation? Try this instead:

✨ Washing hands? Feel the water, notice the temperature.

✨ Drinking tea? Breathe in the scent before taking a sip.

✨ Walking to another room? Feel your feet connecting to the ground.

Micro-mindfulness = a calmer mind in seconds. 💙

Carers MK has been dedicated to supporting family carers in Milton Keynes for almost 20 years, providing advice, advocacy, respite, and solidarity to thousands of carers. As a member of Carers Trust, our commitment to carers remains steadfast.

Unfortunately our application to continue delivering the Young Carers and Young Adult Carers service, was unsuccessful.

From May 2025, this service will be delivered by CHUMS as part of changes commissioned by Milton Keynes City Council.

Having supported young carers for nearly two decades, our priority will always remain the young carers we support and our dedicated staff team. We look forward to working closely with CHUMS to ensure a smooth handover.

A message from our CEO, Karen Irons:

"The wonderful words we continue to receive from you all give the team comfort at a difficult time. It has been a great privilege that you have trusted us. Your strength and courage are remarkable, and we wish you well. CHUMS will be there for you from May, and we will update you as we work with them through this transition phase."

Our contract to deliver the Young Carers and Young Adult Carers service will end on 30th April 2025.

We want to reassure all carers that we are here to answer any questions and provide support during this transition. Until our contract ends, we remain fully committed to delivering high-quality services, and we are also exploring ways to continue supporting carers in Milton Keynes in the future.

If you have any concerns or need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
