The UK and the US are this week celebrating their veterans from days gone by - it’s true, nothing of value was ever won without great sacrifice.
I have realised that there is also a group that has made enormous sacrifices for their loved ones and fellow countrymen. This group is almost never celebrated but I want to call on all Zimbabweans Abroad, our modern day economic veterans, to also take time to pat themselves on the shoulders and reflect on what they have contributed to the lives of others in Zimbabwe; sons, daughters, anambuya, brothers, sisters, bangane etc who survived the dark days of the economic depression because the diaspora slaved to send money home every week so people could buy food, pay rent, afford healthcare etc. I urge you, diasporans, to take time to reflect on the economic battles you have fought since migrating from home and consider the contributions you have made so far and how you will continue to fight the good fight to preserve not just your own but the country’s future economic security.

I applaud and celebrate you and I know in time the whole country will do too.
