🧠 Milton Keynes Brain Injury Conference 2027 is coming!

What happens after someone leaves hospital following a brain injury?

The hospital stay may be over. The rehabilitation programme may have finished. The immediate crisis may have passed.

But for many people living with brain injury, that is where the real journey begins.

MKBIC 2027: Beyond Hospital – Life After Brain Injury, will bring together professionals, organisations, people with lived experience and families to explore what happens next, educate, and explore how we can build better support around brain injury survivors as they return to life in the community.

📍 Unity Place, Milton Keynes
📅 April 2027

Over the coming months we'll be introducing our speakers, sponsors and charity partners, sharing more about the programme and opening registrations for interest.

This isn't just about what happens in hospital.

It's about what happens after.

BRAIN FACT FRIDAY 🗣️

🧠 BRAIN FACT

The occipital lobe is based at the back of our heads, damage to this area can affect how process visual information and how we receive thing visually.
It is also where the term 'eyes in the back of my head' comes from.

The Occipital Lobe helps us recognise:
🎨 Colours
📏 Shapes
🚶 Movement
📍 Objects and surroundings

Brain injury can affect visual processing even when eyesight is normal.

💡 BRAIN BOOST
Support visual processing by:

💡 Improving lighting
🎯 Reducing visual clutter
⏸️ Allowing extra time to take in information

❤️ TAKEAWAY

Seeing isn't just about the eyes, it's about how the brain interprets what the eyes send.

👤Brain Fact Friday

🧠 BRAIN FACT
The frontal lobe is often called the brain's control centre.

It helps us with:
✅ Planning and organising
✅ Decision-making
✅ Problem-solving
✅ Managing emotions
✅ Impulse control
✅ Social behaviour

Damage to the frontal lobe can affect how a person thinks, feels, and behaves; even if memory and physical abilities seem unchanged.

💡 BRAIN BOOST
If someone has a frontal lobe injury, structure can be incredibly helpful.

Try:
📅 Using a daily routine
📝 Breaking tasks into smaller steps
⏰ Using reminders and prompts
😌 Allowing extra time for decision-making
🛌 Take regular breaks to manage fatigue

❤️ TAKEAWAY
A person isn't being lazy, difficult, or unmotivated: Their brain will be working much harder to plan, organise and complete everyday tasks.

👤 Brain Fact Friday 👤

🧠 BRAIN FACT
Every 90 seconds, someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with a brain injury.

Brain injuries can happen to anyone, at any age, and can result from falls, strokes, road traffic collisions, assaults, infections, tumours, or other illnesses affecting the brain.

💡 BRAIN BOOST
Many people leave hospital still needing support.

Brain injury can affect:
🧠 Memory
🗣️ Communication
⚡ Energy levels
😊 Emotions

Recovery doesn't end when someone comes home.

❤️ Key Message
