A fascinating and important day at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London for Ukrainian Cultural Heritage and UK Institutions: Shifting Perspectives and Practice - bringing together Ukrainian and British museums, archives, academics and community organisations to explore how Ukrainian cultural heritage is preserved, understood and represented in the UK.

Pictured is Dr Ludmila Pekarska, Curator of the AUGB’s Shevchenko Library & Archive, during her presentation on the remarkable journey of a medieval Kyivan treasure into major Western collections.

Among the many invaluable contributions throughout the day, it was also good to see the long-established Ukrainian community in Britain represented by the Association of Ukrainian Women in Great Britain, speaking about its folk-art collections, and AUGB Gloucester Branch Chair Nataliya Garbut and colleagues, discussing community-led work to preserve both tangible and intangible Ukrainian heritage.

An important reminder of the richness of Ukraine’s cultural heritage and of the role that generations of Ukrainians in Britain have played in preserving it. Thank you to the V&A for bringing it to the fore!!!
