Photo overload but today was the perfect day for Abbey bothering. Always think this place is unique in its hidden setting and quite like it that way 😂 . As Beneficiaries of Furness Abbey, our Boyviles, Coupland’s and Huddleston’s were well connected to this extraordinary place, for better and for worse.

For those who’ve never visited Furness Abbey before there’s a brill little cafe hidden behind the Abbey 😊

A full house at History Group this morning! We welcomed new and familiar faces to the table which is always lovely 😊.

A lady visiting Millom told of her Dickinson family who owned the Millom Gazette, provoking much chatter from all of us who have researched material from the local newspaper! Jean remembered going to buy left over paper from the printers at the bottom of Holborn Hill!

Josh brought in his latest finds which always fascinate people, the ladies amongst us were most taken with the Victorian silver hair clip which hasn t changed in design to this day, and we wondered if it had ever changed design since its invention 😂.

Marshall’s mystery tour took us along the River Lazy to its previous name of ‘Hell’s Pool’. My notes are a bit sketchy on this but my advice would be to grab him and ask him next time you see him - he won’t mind!

Lots of discussion on how language both written and oral changes over the years, and how this affects our understanding of local history.

Lizzy brought in this charming complete Pilgrim’s Progress miniature leather bound book which dates back to the 19th C, we love stuff like this 😊

Many thank you’s to Millom Heritage and Arts Centre for letting us use the room again, this is such a positive, friendly group. We’ll see you in June 😊

A nice little medieval key - Josh can’t decide if it’s the key to success or the key back to the future 😂😂😂
