It is with considerable sadness that Bootle Refugee Aid write with news of the death of our founder - Joan Capp, MBE.
For over quarter of a century, Joan worked tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our World's most vulnerable - civilians caught up in the misery of war. She succeeded, time and time again, because of her relentless determination to bring comfort to those who needed it the most.
From Bosnia to Pakistan, Bulgaria to Uganda, Kosovo to Sri Lanka, and many other countries, Joan not only raised money to provide life saving and life enhancing humanitarian aid, but she invariably delivered it herself, ensuring that it was given directly into the hands of those needed it the most.
Joan was an inspiration to so many. Her entire approach to life was to be especially supportive of those who were often overlooked - particularly the elderly. The politics and religion of the refugees she worked with was never a consideration for her. She celebrated difference and both believed in, and practiced, equality amongst all peoples.
If more of us were like Joan, the World would be a happier and more peaceful planet.
Joan - from all of us at Bootle Refugee Aid - we pray and hope that you have now been reunited with your beloved husband Alan. We thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for the joy, friendship and meaning you brought to our own lives. Finally we hope that, now the struggles of life are over, you truly Rest In Peace.
