We are looking for volunteers to join us on our Midhurst Common Open Day on Saturday 27 JUNE 2026.

We meet at Carron Lane Car Park at 10am and return approximately 1pm. We will be removing seedling, conifers and silver birch from the heath. It is important to maintain this rare heathland habitat for species like ground nesting birds, plants and reptiles. FOMC try to maintain the Common for recreation and enjoyment of the local community.

Equipment will be provided but you will need sturdy boots, as the terrain is rough, gardening gloves and appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.

Come and join us and learn more on the day.

Christmas Greetings to all our members and volunteers
of Friends of Midhurst Common

The monthly Heath Team, led by Wendy, continue to do sterling work in keeping the open space in good order. The team cleared the gorse in front of the Sunset Hill bench so that we can all continue to enjoy the wonderful view across the Common to the Downs.

We have had great support from the South Downs National Park team, whose leader, Ethan, explained at the AGM the importance of the heath area in maintaining biodiversity along a corridor across the centre of the South Downs. Ranger Ethan worked especially hard in October, with groups of Corporate Volunteers to clear the thick Birch below Sunset Hill.

Andrew led the project to create a hand made gate and fence at the entrance to the bog allotment in memory of Murray Marr. Murray enhanced this very damp allotment to create a place of tranquil beauty and botanical interest. I think you will agree that it is looking very impressive. It was jointly funded by Murray’s family and ourselves.

Wishing you, your families and loved ones a Happy Christmas and a Healthy, Happy New Year.
The Committee of the Friends of Midhurst Common.
