Edgar Wood Society Preserving and promoting the heritage of architect and designer Edgar Wood

Our mission is to help promote and preserve the heritage of architect and designer Edgar Wood in Middleton and the surrounding area, and in particular the Arts & Crafts Church. The Society was formed in 2011 as The Friends of the Edgar Wood Centre (Long Street Methodist Church & School) following the purchase of the property by the Heritage Trust for the North West.

Steve Whitworth - Edgar Wood houses, Manchester Old Road, Middleton

We are fast approaching Heritage Open Days and we have lots of good things happening at Long Street Methodist Church.


The much loved artist, Steve Whitworth, has been busy producing artworks all based around Edgar Wood buildings in Middleton. This impressive series of work will be on display during Heritage Open Days.

Here are the details of our Heritage Open Day events in September.

A fantastic art exhibition by local top artist, Steve Whitworth. Steve has created over 100 artworks all connected to Edgar Wood buildings in Middleton. Don't miss it!

We have musical events, including local superstar, Ben Floyd, followed by Peter Stanaway and friends (Gerry Kearns from The Oldham Tinkers) on Saturday 19th September.

Art workshops too!

Happy Edgar Wood Day!

Today marks Edgar Wood's birthday. The fantastic architect was born on 17th May 1860.

At 1pm today we have a guided walk to local Edgar Wood buildings in Middleton. We start from Long Street Methodist Church and it will take around an hour. The church is open today 1pm-4pm and you can see the David Robinson exhibition.

It was great to have a visit today from John at Manchester Taxi Tours!

We are back open tomorrow 11am-4pm
Then last day on Sunday 1pm-4pm. We have a guided tour from 1pm from the church to local Edgar Wood buildings.

Sunday 17th also marks Edgar Wood's birthday.

We are back open today 1pm-4pm at Edgar Wood's Long Street Methodist Church in Middleton. Come and see our David Robinson exhibition and have a brew. We are open daily this week Monday-Friday 1pm - 4pm, then this Saturday 11am-4pm. Last day is Sunday 17th May 1pm-4pm. This is Edgar Wood's birthday and we have a guided walk ftom the church at 1pm, with cake on our return!
