Zara's story
We were inspired by the pupils at Edgar Wood Academy and the money they raised for local causes in the recent 'First Give' event. We have chosen a local charity in order to give back to the community we serve.

Mrs Gaughan-Pollard, Mr Griffin, Miss Barnes, Mrs Alafiatayo, Miss Heaton and Mrs Eaton have decided to walk/run 500 miles between them in June.

Middleton Central Foodbank was set up in 2014 to ‘stand in the gap’ for people experiencing short-term crisis. Currently the numbers of people needing emergency food support remains stubbornly high as people are increasingly impacted by the ongoing cost-of-living squeeze, and more and more people are drawn into financial hardship.

In 2024, the foodbank gave out the equivalent of 74,300 meals to people. They supported over 670 families comprising 1773 adults and 1076 children, so, nearly 2,850 supported.

The money that you give to us will help us to buy additional food supplies, and to contribute towards the running of the foodbank.

Yummy honey. Thank you Peter and Middleton Shopping Centre for this sweet donation.

🍯 We are Buzzing! Our community bee hive we installed here at the Middleton Shopping Centre last year, has now produced delicious honey for the Lighthouse Project ‘s Middleton Central Foodbank 🐝❤️
It’s a sweet way to support our community and help those in need!

We couldn’t have achieved this without the support from our local expert beekeeper Peter from Peter's Local Honey

Hi, if you see any of our lovely team or volunteers whilst you are shopping in Middleton Tesco today or Saturday them please give them a big smile. They'll offer you a a shopping list, or a pre-filled 'grab bag', in case you want to support us this Christmas with a donation of food.

Today is day 2 of 3 days of collecting to help us boost our winter stocks so we can support local families. In the last 12 months the foodbank has given out over 1270 emergency food parcels supporting nearly 2900 adults and children from 700 different families. There is still much need out there.

We couldn't do this without the support of kind donors who help us to help others. Thank you.

It is shocking that in the last 6 months Trussell Foodbanks, including our own Middleton Central Foodbank, have had to give out so much food to support struggling families.

** Watch the video and see if you can guess the number of food parcels given out **

In the year up to the end of October 2024 Middleton Foodbank gave out over 30 tonnes of food via 1250 emergency food parcels in support of 700 families, a 6% rise on the same period in last year.

If you are shopping in Tesco at the end of next week (28th-30th Nov) we will have volunteers in store for 3-days please donate to help us maintain our winter food stocks so we can continue to help local families in need.

**Help needed** Volunteering for our Tesco Extra - Winter Collection (Thur 28th - Sat 30th November)

We are looking for volunteers to help us give out shopping list leaflets during our 3-days of in-store food collections in the Tesco Extra Store in Middleton Town Centre on Thursday, Friday and Saturday 28th-30th Nov.

The collection is part of a national campaign in support of local Foodbanks, and this helps boost our winter food stocks so we can meet the increased demands of the winter months.

We are looking for volunteers who can work in 2 hour shifts to greet customers and hand out foodbank shopping list leaflets to customers as they enter the store.

Without shopping lists we don't get donations, so your help in reaching out to customers will be greatly appreciated.

We have to cover the time between 9.30am - 4.30pm for each day, and ideally we are looking for 3 or 4 people to be around at any one time.

To sign up send us a message with your contact details, or call 0161 643 1163 and ask for Sue, or email the foodbank on - [email protected]

Many Thanks - Carl

Our Story

Middleton Central Foodbank was set up in August 2014 in responds to local need where many families and individuals struggle to put food on the table for themselves of their families.

We work with many other groups and organisations to provide a local support for people experiencing food poverty and crisis by offering access to a 3-day supply of food.

The majority of our food is donated by individuals and local groups who ‘food-raise’ on our behalf, we also have a good working relationship many local businesses and organisation who organise collection points within their premises.

We also have a strong relationship with Tesco who host a permanent collection point for us in their Tesco Extra store, and from this they also top up all of their customers donations by an additional 20%, which comes directly to the foodbank.
