Ho-Ho-Greetings from sunny R-ho-ho-des! ☀️🏝️

Greetings from the beach!

Mrs. Claus and I are having the most wonderful holiday out here. The weather is absolutely glorious, and I’ve traded my heavy red coat for some very festive swim shorts. I must confess, I’ve developed quite a fondness for these brilliantly bright, colourful drinks they serve here, the ones with the tiny little umbrellas in them! (Though I keep getting the umbrellas caught in my beard!)

As I sit here watching the waves, my mind has been wandering back to last December. I was just thinking about how much I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Rotary Middleton. Seeing all the smiling faces of the good boys and girls was absolutely amazing, and it truly warmed my heart. I’m already looking forward to doing it all over again this year!

In fact, I’ve just sent word to the Elves at Rotary Middleton to start mapping out my routes and getting the sleigh ship-shaped and ready for takeoff this December. I hear everyone is already hard at work, and the elves simply can't wait to get started!

Keep being good, stay kind, and I’ll see you before you know it!

Warmest wishes and sunny smiles,

Santa Claus 🎅🏖️
(and a big wave from Mrs. Claus, too!)

Today should have been a proud, vibrant day in Middleton town centre, especially in the gardens. It’s market day, the Middleton Fringe Festival is finally helping to bring life back into the town, and everything was set for the place to look its absolute best.

Rotary Middleton had done its part. Just last week, as part of our summer refurbishment, we planted the three community planters with a beautiful selection of flowering plants, chosen specifically to brighten the area and give residents and visitors something to enjoy.

So you can imagine the sheer anger and frustration when we arrived today to find them stripped bare.

Stolen. Again.

Three planters left looking completely neglected and sorry for themselves, and for what? A handful of plants taken by people who clearly have no respect whatsoever for their own community.

And let’s be absolutely clear: this isn’t a one-off. This keeps happening. Time and time again. We replace the plants, and they’re taken. We try to improve the town, and someone comes along and tears that effort down.

It’s getting beyond a joke.

Rotary Middleton is a volunteer organisation. Every pound we spend comes from funds that could be used to support our community, to help people, to fund local causes, to make Middleton better. Instead, we’re now being forced to repeatedly spend that money replacing stolen plants.

That’s money that should be helping people in need, not fixing damage caused by selfish behaviour.

What’s gone wrong here?

When did it become acceptable for people to just help themselves?

How have we reached a point where individuals think it’s perfectly fine to take almost every plant from a public display meant for everyone?

The people of Middleton deserve better than this.

Right now, it feels like the town is being completely let down, let down by a lack of respect for the community as a whole.

Enough is enough.

🌸 MIDDLETON COMMUNITY PLANTERS ARE READY FOR SUMMER! 🌸

Today, our team was hard at work restocking all three of our community planters in Middleton Gardens, and we can’t wait to see them burst into full bloom over the coming weeks. They are going to look amazing once again!

Rotary Middleton members are people of action, but we also love having a great time while making a difference. If you’re looking to join us for some fun and friendship, while helping those in need and giving your time back as service to our community, we would love to have you on board! 🤝✨

📸 Check out the photo to see the team in action:

Peter is collecting a haul of compost! A huge, heartfelt thank you to Tesco for this incredible free donation. They are amazing! (Bonus thanks to Tesco for also donating the fantastic prizes for our Human Fruit Machine at the Hopwood Hall College Fun Day coming up on Saturday 20 June! 🍓🍋🍏). Keith is hard at work, getting those roots settled in and then looking very proud of his handiwork, and rightly so! The planters look incredible.

Come say hello if you see us out and about, and don't forget to come support us at Hopwood Hall on the 20th! 🎪☀️

🌹 Happy St. George’s Day from Rotary Middleton! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Today, we celebrate the spirit of courage and community that St. George represents.

In Rotary, we might not fight literal dragons, but we do tackle the "dragons" in our society, like poverty, illness, and inequality. For us, today is a reminder of our core value: Service Above Self.
