This week we celebrated Halloween in our Beaver and Cub fashion.

Both groups got to make skeleton and pumpkin rope buddies which was fun to do for the kids (maybe a little stressful for the adults) 😂

Beavers also got to do some spooky decorations and an interesting experiment.

Cubs ended their session with glow stick bowling, which was fun to get involved in.

We also got to invest our newest Beaver this week, welcome Rupert!

We hope everyone has a great half term and happy Halloween 🎃 👻

🎃👻 WHAT A GHOULY GOOD PARTY WE HAD LAST NIGHT! 💀🕷️

We had a spooktacular time at Scouts last night, packed full of games, giggles and a little Halloween mischief! 🧙‍♀️🎃

Here’s what our young people got up to…

🎯 Pumpkin Pong! 🏓
The Scouts put their aim and bouncing skills to the test as they tried to bounce an orange ping-pong ball into a cup. Easier said than done! 🍊

🕵️ Murder Mystery! 🔎
For his final session with us, Bobby organised a murder mystery for the young people to solve. They all got stuck in and thoroughly enjoyed putting their detective skills to the test! A huge thank you to Bobby for organising such a fun activity! 👏

💀 Pin the Teeth on the Skeleton! 🦷
We had a rather unfortunate skeleton who had lost his teeth! Could our Scouts put them back where they belonged? There were some interesting attempts! 😂

🤫 Don't Wake the Dead! 🧟
The challenge was to retrieve an item from underneath the dead body's chair without waking him up. With those creaky floorboards, it was a tense mission! Would they make it out without waking the dead? 👀

🧻 How Well Can You Wrap the Mummy? 🧟‍♂️
Working in teams of three, one Scout became the mummy while the other two got busy wrapping their teammate up in toilet paper! There were plenty of laughs as our teams raced to create their very own mummies. Who knew toilet paper could be so much fun? 😂

🍩 Dead Man's Donuts! 🍩
And, of course, we couldn't forget one of our Scouts' favourite games! The young people had to retrieve their delicious dead man's donuts, and let's just say this challenge was well and truly aced! The sugary treats went down a storm! 😋

What a fantastic way to finish the half term! We've had a brilliant time with you all, and we hope you've enjoyed every minute as much as we have.

Hopefully, everyone went home with a smile on their face and a belly full of sugar! 😁🍬

Thank you for an amazing half term, everyone! 💚 We hope you have a lovely break, and we'll see you all next term for more adventures, fun and Scouting shenanigans! ⚜️

🏆⚜️ A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS TO LIO AND KIERAN! ⚜️🏆

A huge well done to two more of our Scouts, Lio and Kieran, who have completed all the challenges in the Scout programme and have been awarded their Chief Scout Gold Awards! 🎉👏

The Chief Scout Gold Award is the top award in Scouts, recognising the dedication, commitment and hard work it takes to develop new skills, work as part of a team, help the community, learn about the world around us and embrace adventure. 🌍🤝🏕️

Achieving this award is a fantastic accomplishment, and both Lio and Kieran should be incredibly proud of everything they’ve achieved along the way.

From all of us, WELL DONE, LIO AND KIERAN! 💚 We can’t wait to see what adventures and achievements come next! 🙌

🥾🌿 A Creative Scouts Session – Making Our Own Walking Poles! 🎨

What an amazingly creative session we had tonight! 🤩 All the Scouts who attended got stuck in and had the opportunity to make their very own walking poles, ready for future adventures!
There was lots to do, with everyone getting hands-on as they:

🔨 Drilled a hole for their handle to go through.
🧶 Plaited their 3rd SLaM-coloured handles.
✏️ Added their own doodles and personal touches to make each pole unique.
🪢 Attached the paracord handles, ready to grip as they head out on their walks.

The results are fantastic, with some truly beautiful and individual creations! 💚 Every walking pole has its own personality, just like the Scout who made it.

I can't wait to see these walking companions out on our future walks and adventures! 🥾🌳

Well done, everyone — here's to many miles of adventures with your handmade walking poles! 🙌⚜️

🎨 Creative Badge Fun at Scouts Tonight! 🏺

Tonight at Scouts, our young people got their creative juices flowing as they worked towards their Creative Badge! 🌟

Some had only just started their creations, while others were already well on their way to completing them. There were some really interesting and imaginative creations made using nothing but their bare hands and clay — and the photos really do speak for themselves! 👏

The clay we used is air-drying, so once their creations are completely dry, your young Scout can paint them if they’d like to add even more colour and personality. 🎨

We’d absolutely love to see the finished masterpieces! If your young person paints their creation over the next week, please share a photo in the comments — we can’t wait to see what they come up with! 😊

Well done everyone, and keep those creative juices flowing! 🖌️✨

Last weeks session was all about hockey!
As we had our annual UniHoc tournament over the weekend (we won!!!!) with our cubs it was a great way to get into practice.

Luckily, one of our leaders is an ice hockey coach, so he brought equipment for the children to look at and check out.

Then both Beavers and Cubs had to try out some puck handling skills and they all did super well!

Towards the end of both sessions we got the children into groups and they took part in our own little 3rd SLAM hockey games! It got a little competitive and they all got stuck in. Even our Beavers in Training had a go!

Well done to all Beavers and Cubs last week! We will see you on Thursday!

🥇 Congratulations to our competition team who came first at the South Leeds & Morley Scout District camping competition.

🔥 This is the first time 3rd have entered a competition team and they worked brilliantly setting up their own camp and cooking on open fire for the weekend.

🥘 All meals were judged including their hygiene, hospitality and the taste test.

🏕️ They kept their campsite and tents tidy - hopefully some young leaders in the making to help teach the Beavers and Cubs how to have a tidy tent!

🎤 They also came joint first with 1st SLAM Scout Group - Beeston in the campfire entertainment competition

⭐ Our training team also did an excellent job with very little leader input, definitely a future competition team in the making.

This week, both our Beavers and Cubs celebrated the Autumn Equinox, at the beginning of the session we had a quick chat about what the Autumn Equinox is, we then had a walk around the hall looking at the few changing leaves and collected some to take back with us.

Beavers used some of their collection to make Autumn Hedgehogs that they could hang up around their house. They also used some pre cut glitter leaves for a bit of colour. After completing our Hedgehogs, they then spent the last bit of the session seeing how well they could work together and follow instructions with a game.

When Cubs returned to the hall, we made Autumnal sun catchers, they chose their own animal/leaf stencil and used our tissue paper to complete their sun catcher to hang in a window at home. We then had a discussion about what kind of activities they enjoy the most at camp to help us decide on activities for next month’s Cub camp.

We hope they all had a fab time.

Just a quick reminder that all young people need to bring their water bottles, as we don’t always have access to the hall facilities and provide cups for them. Thank you!

⛺ Camping Competition preparations are well underway! 🔥

This week in Scouts, we carried on getting ready for our Camping Competition!

The Scouts put their creative skills to work by writing their own stories, before turning their attention to the campfire — choosing our campfire song and getting stuck into practising it. 🎶🔥

There was plenty of creativity, teamwork and, of course, a fair bit of singing! 😂

We’ve put in the practice… now I guess we’ll have to wait until the weekend to see how it all turns out! 👀🏕️

Good luck, Scouts — you’ve got this! 🤞🔥

🌲 Another brilliant night with our Scouts! 🔥

Last night, our amazing Scouts put their thinking hats on and got creative, designing and building some pretty impressive structures out of wood! 🪵🔨

Meanwhile, our younger Scouts got stuck into learning all about setting up a campsite — including where everything goes and how to get camp organised.

Our four Scouts who went caving this past weekend also spoke to everyone and shared what they experienced, telling us all about their adventure underground! 🧗‍♂️🪨

And, of course, no Scout night would be complete without a little celebration! 🎂 We finished the evening with a delicious birthday cake kindly brought in by one of our fantastic volunteers.

A great evening of teamwork, creativity, learning, adventure and plenty of fun! 💚
