Take a sensory journey with nature ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐ŸŒฟ

As one of your activities, why not pause for a few moments and tune into the natural world using your senses. Focusing on what you can see, hear, feel, smell, and potentially even taste in nature can help you slow down, clear distractions, and feel more connected to the world around you.

Nature in Derbyshire needs more space ๐ŸŒฟ

Wildlife habitats have become fragmented, species are struggling to move across the landscape, and nature needs room to recover. At the same time, new homes, businesses and infrastructure will continue to be built.

That's where Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) comes in. This law requires developers to leave nature in a measurably better state than before, delivering at least a 10% improvement in biodiversity.

Importantly, Biodiversity Net Gain doesn't increase development. It simply ensures that when development happens, nature benefits too.

At Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, we're using this opportunity to secure land, restore habitats and create bigger, better and more connected spaces for wildlife across the county ๐Ÿฆ”๐ŸŒณ

Every pound generated through this work is reinvested into our charitable mission of creating a wilder Derbyshire for people and wildlife.

Imagine opening your wallet and seeing a symbol of British nature recovery ๐Ÿฆ”๐Ÿ๐Ÿฆ‰

The Bank of England has launched a public vote to choose which species will feature on the next generation of UK banknotes.

Out of the 18 incredible species shortlisted, there is one very close to our hearts here at Derbyshire Wildlife Trust: the pine marten.

Once a common sight in our woodlands, pine martens have sadly been lost from Derbyshire for generations. But it doesn't have to stay this way. We are actively working on plans to bring these amazing native mammals back to our county - creating bigger, better, and more connected woodland habitats where they can thrive once again.

Seeing the pine marten on a banknote would be an incredible celebration of what a could look like.

You can vote for multiple species - whether youโ€™re backing the buff-tailed bumblebee, honouring the hedgehog, or promoting the pine marten.

Imagine walking through a restored woodland, hearing the gentle hum of a landscape that has found its balance. In the quiet of the early morning, you look up into the dappled light of the canopy and catch a flash of chestnut fur. It's a pine marten - agile and curious - leaping between the branches of an ancient oak. After decades of absence, seeing this charismatic species is a sign that woodlands are healthy and reconnected.

You can help pine martens return to Derbyshire ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿพ

Every membership enables us to create the bigger, better, more joined up woodlands that pine martens need.

Look up at the skies over Derbyshire and you might be lucky enough to spot our incredible summer visitors - Swifts!

To kick off their arrival this season, pupils at Walter Evans Primary School found a beautiful way to celebrate them. As part of the campaign, the schoolโ€™s Eco Team created a stunning collaborative art piece and rang the bells at their local church, to get the whole community thinking about their role in nature recovery.

This project was brought to life by the Derby Nature Collective - a network of local groups, schools, and partners (including Derbyshire Wildlife Trust), working to bring nature back into our urban spaces ๐Ÿ™๏ธ๐ŸŒณ

Because Swifts rely on urban buildings to nest, rewilding our towns and cities is vital to their survival. The bells may have welcomed them home, but the work to support them continues all year round.

Today marks the start of Volunteers' Week, and what a fantastic way to kick it off!

We came together to celebrate the incredible volunteers who take bold action to restore nature across Derbyshire ๐Ÿ’š

It was a genuinely uplifting day, full of appreciation and powerful reminders of what happens when everyone plays their part to make nature's recovery happen.

One of our core strategic pillars is creating inclusive and accessible volunteering and skill-sharing opportunities. The abundance of energy in the room today perfectly captured what that's all about: building diverse, sustainable networks that drive real change so that wildlife and communities can thrive together.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special - to our corporate member Lubrizol for generously hosting the event, and to the volunteers at the heart of it all! Together, we are building a wilder Derbyshire for generations to come โœจ
