TS1 Tees Valley - Endeavours to deliver and supply sports programmes to the local and wider community in Middlesbrough, particularly in the Central area where many youngsters do not have access or reach to activities and programmes. Our mission is to engage with youngsters and motivate them with exciting activities such as Football, Basketball, Table Tennis, etc…. We have identified that there is
an interest in the town centre area which we would like to activate with these programmes. We feel that many youngsters can benefit with having easy access to these facilities as many do not have an option to travel and play further afield. Familiar venues give confidence to those who are shy and make their experience a more comfortable one. Parents can also drop in while their children are participating in their chosen activities to see how the kids are developing, if they have not stayed to watch. Our key to making the most of sports, and delivering a long term strategy change in the number of people who play sport locally, is to create a sporting habit amongst youngsters that will last a lifetime. We understand that delivering positive activities in the community for youngsters can help them direct their energies towards being better role models in their respective localities and make their communities a better place. Creating and increasing opportunities for youngsters to play sports is important and vital for their development and can help them achieve their goals whether that’s in further education or improving themselves. We can also achieve this by encouraging parents to urge children to direct their time towards positive channels in the form of sport, rather than wasting time. Ideally having our own centre would facilitate the activities we wish to provide. However, at the moment this cannot be achieved so we will be renting venues as and when they are available for use. if we are hosting a football session then we will need a sports hall to deliver that session, with equipment. The equipment, we would like to purchase for this sport will include, footballs, cones, netting for goals, bibs for opposing teams, whistles etc…
We have raised awareness within the community using our networks that we will be providing this service amongst other sporting activities for the community at large and have received great feedback from parents and youngsters alike. We are from the local community and other volunteers are from the central area of Middlesbrough. Parents are comfortable as we are known in the locality and are happy for us to work with them. We want to break down barriers with people, so by encouraging this they understand that sport is for all. We want all young people, of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, to be involved, including people with disabilities. We want to ensure that there are as many opportunities as possible for young people to play sport both inside and outside of school. By doing this, hopefully we can encourage them to continue into College and University and possibly into a sports career. Our strategy is to form a stream of steady followers and to eventually open a Football and Training Club where youngsters can regularly enjoy and partake in Football Skills sessions. We can utilise our Volunteer pool to access experienced sports coaches to assist our project. We know there are children that have great potential in their skill sets and hopefully we can identify this talent and give them and their parents direction into where they could unlock the full capacity that individual child may hold. Although, we would initiate our model with simple training sessions in various sports, our objective again, is to deliver Excellent services in providing quality sports access and training with great facilities and coaching. We also want to work into our sports activities about anti Bullying & Show Racism the Red Card in Sports. Delivering simple and effective workshops and distributing literature amongst our attendees we can create more awareness regarding these matters. We can also be further effective by using our Social Media Forums to spread these important messages.
